help! dd is sleeping through the night!

Or at least most of it! I don't want to use doublers, so I was thinking of making some nightime diapers. What is the most absorbant fabric for the soaker layers- or a combination. My daytimes have 3 layers of terrycloth, but its so thick, I don't want to add more thickness if I don't have to (which is why I don't want to use doublers).

I was thinking, 1 layer microfleece for the top, then some sort of soaker- like microfiber- how many layers of microfiber toweling would it take?, And then 1 or 2 layers of flannel for the outer body- nearest the cover.

Any ideas?

I hate to tell you this, but if you wnt a diaper to last through the night it is probably going to be THICK. I use oversized pockets for my dd and stuff them with 3layers of microfleece and 6layers of hemp ft or 6layers of microfleece and 3+ layers of hemp. It's not in anyway trim but it gets the job done and our bed stays dry throughout the night. Maybe your baby wets less and you won't need that many layers. I would suggest using a pocket if you have one to test the ammount of layers and type of fabric that is needed for her to stay dry before you do an internal soaker, that way you will know if it will work.

I have 1 night time diaper, and over size pocket, Outer layer is recycled pul and the inner is microfleece. I stuff it with a couple contour soakers and a cpf. Its way bulky but it stays dry and is easy to wash and dry the next day. If you make a night time aio itll probabaly be just as bulky as a pocket and a lot harder to wash and dry properly.

I refuse to help you. My son is nearly two and still wakes up for hours at a time most nights... Seriously, because of this issue, I have no real solutions, just wanted to drop in and say .

A nighttime diaper pretty much has to be thick. It doesn't necessarily have to cause your child to look like the marshmallow man (unless you have a heavy wetter), but it's going to be thicker than a daytime diaper. Afterall, it's holding 10-12 hours of pee, right? And a daytime diaper is meant to hold more like 2-3 hours of pee.

Also, a doubler is kind of a fact of life with a nighttime diaper. If you sew everything together (like making a fitted with internal soaker), it's going to be very difficult to clean and take forever and a day to dry.

My nighttime systems...

1) hemp/sherpa fitted with 3 layers hemp soaker and 1 layer velour - soaker sewn in quick-dry fashion to the body layers. Then, on top of that, I add a hemp/velour tri-fold (one layer hemp, one layer velour - all serged together). That gives me a total of 10 layers for a soaker, plus 2 body layers in the diaper. Using hemp keeps it nice and trim, comparetivly.
2) Pocket stuffed with 1 Joey Bunz (I think that's 6 layers of hemp jersey?) and the above tri-fold. Again, with hemp, it's fairly trim as far as nighttime diapers go.

Both of those will last him 12 hours right now. They are bulkier than his daytime system, but they're not so bulky that he can't move or anything. If I double up prefolds, he can't move.

Oh man!
I was just hoping there was some magic fabric that was so absorbant that I would only need two or three layers for the soaker. Ack.

That's true, unless its super thin... back to the magic fabric. Man o Man- well, at least I can use a microfleece liner to keep the wetness away from her skin, and then a doubler plus dipe.

Funny thing is, we've used sposies and even though she wasn't sleeping through the night then, they were awfully full!! I imagine they would have leaked after 12 hours too!!

If it makes you feel any better, dd just went through a REALLY bad teething spell, where she woke up every hour for about a week, besides screaming all day too. But seriously, I feel for you mama!

Last night, DD went to bed with a homemade tri-fold of a 15 x 15 microfiber towel sandwiched between 2 layers of hemp jersey and a small 6 layer hemp booster... no leaks.
She doesn't pee all night anymore but FLOODS as she wakes up. I even tried a disposable the other night, which didn't work. So, I'm crossing my fingers that this will continue to work.

My best solution is an oversized pocket fitted. I have 1 layer of flannel then 2 layers of french terry then the pocket then another 2 layers of french terry and a layer of flannel. The pocket has the inserts sewn into the back (so that they're attached but can be pulled out for better cleaning and faster drying) I think each of the inserts is 3 layers of french terry as well. That's a total of 10 layers of french terry and 2 layers of flannel. It takes as long to dry as my AIO's and it holds nicely at night (DD sleeps for 12-13 hrs at night) we top off with wool. Given it's cheap french terry and it's pretty thin but it's one heck of a big diaper. Otherwise we use a premium prefold with 2 doublers topped with wool. The doublers are made from 100% cotton diapers that were not even close to absorbant enough. They were given to us by a neighbour and after confirming that she didn't want them back we frankensteined them and cut them into doublers because they weren't usable as they were.

Bulky diapers at night are to be expected when you are using cloth I think. They're not moving much then though so it doesn't matter so much if it's bulky.
