One of the women on my due date club just had her baby....reallly early. She plans to CD so I would love to send her one or two preemie diapers. The smallest pattern I have is the newborn sized very baby fitted.....do you think I could try trimming it down or copy it at a slightly smaller size? Suggestions? I turn and topstitch anyhow so they are a little smaller...but not sure if its preemie size small. What do you all think?

preemie pattern?

Good Gracious has a free preemie pattern - just scroll down - it's right above the training pants paragraph. I haven't used it though. I wasn't sewing diapers when DS was born! I also suggest some preemie prefolds and some preemie sized or small newborn (Proraps run small) covers. Babies usually don't come home until they're 4 1/2-5 lbs. Then it's another month or so before they hit newborn size of 7lbs. Given the level of earliness of this one, you probably don't need to worry about umbilical cord stuff with the preemie diaper.
I hope everything is ok!!! I was the first to deliver on my due date list too. September list... I delivered at the end of June.
Thankfully, my boy was big and healthy for a 29 weeker.

yes, I used that free good gracious pattern for my preemie and it worked well! You can also use the very baby fitted pattern--use the nb size pattern as is (don't add the 1/4 in seam allowance) and then t&t.
I also used preemie prefolds and preemie litewrap covers from greenmountaindiapers.com.

I have the Darling Diaper newborn pattern that was distributed awhile back...it's be easy to size down to a preemie size. It's similar in shape to the Kissaluv's size 0. I've also sewn with the free Goodness Gracious pattern. I've never had preemie to try the diapers on so I don't know anything about how they would actually fit.
