Making Wool Diaper Covers

I want to make some wool covers like those Bumpy covers with velcro. I'm uncertain about what kind of wool to use. Is it Jersey? Is it felted? Is it interlock?

Well Amazon.com states:
This cover is made of 2 layers of soft, natural felted wool with super soft Velcro closures and leg gussets.

So I guess it's felted, but what are the two layers?

Adding to this, what is Poorboy wool?

I have one, and have loved it. The two layers are both the same, pretty thick wool that has been felted. Same as the LANA products. The second layer is not the same shape as the outside one, it is just like a long rectangle the width of the crotch of the cover, so the wings are not 2 layer, which makes it trimmer. These are seriously the trimmest wool ever! Good luck trying to make one.

I adore my BUMPY wool wraps.
I had three for my son,I wore them out!
The stuff is not at all stretchy, and they have poppers(snaps) as well as velcro.
I too would like to try to replicate them!
Please stay in touch and show piccies when you do it!

i've never tried a bumpy wool cover... i wish i could help...

naturalbabies.com has this to say about the cover ...

Quote:
The Imse Vimse Woollen pants can be used with the Imse Vimse form-fitted diapers (sold separately) or any other diaper. Two layers of super soft (not scratchy!) lambswool makes this an incredibly cool in the summer, warm in the winter cover. Gussetted and velcro fastening. Medium through x-large covers have snaps also for security.
but it doesn't say whether it's interlock or jersey... my guess would be interlock ... but i'm not sure why...

I'm thinking either would work - interlock or jersey - since you're doing it 2 layers. Just don't OVERFELT your wool! I have overfelted jersey sitting here looking for a new home, because I don't want to make a one layer cover. I did two long hot washes, and that was just way too much! So do a short-medium hot wash, then check the wool and see if it's felted to your liking.

When I was looking for wool, all I found was jersey. I wanted flannel, but couldn't find that or interlock instock. I know some co-ops have done interlock recently.

I have some interlock, poorboy, and jersey on order. I'm hoping to cover my bases.

If I had a serger I'd take it off your hands, but I'm not about to try overlocking an entire diaper or cover with just my basic sewing machine yet!

Oh, the wool I have is too thick to do 2-layers. That's why I want to get rid of it. It needs to just have a seam allowance folded over the elastic. Or using wool binding would be an option. Basically, it needs to be done on a sewing machine, not a serger. And I wanted to serge a wool cover, which would be 2 layers.
