Fabric Use Cheat Sheet?

I'm ready to begin branching out into different fabrics. Until now I've been making flannel fitteds and I've made a couple fleece 2 layer covers. So, does anyone have a cheat sheet or list of the uses for different fabrics? For instance, flannel is used for body layers and soakers and it is absorbant but lets the baby feel wetness. Thanks!

Basically, anything made of cotton, hemp, bamboo... those are all absorbent and let the baby feel wetness. Anything 100% polyester is not absorbent, and will either be a cover or wicking layer (if it's useful at all - some polyester isn't useful). Microfleece and suedecloth are the two wicking layers. Fleece is outer layer. PUL is outer layer only because it's laminated to be waterproof.

Oh, and wool is an outer layer and has to be handwashed, but works GREAT as a cover, and only has to be washed like every 2-3 weeks.

Some of the absorbent fabrics will be a cotton/poly blend. You want at least 80% cotton for use in diapers. So for example, the 80/20 velour that's often found will work great in diapers. If you see 100% poly velour, it's not useful (I've seen it in Hancocks and it's not even that soft - yuck).

Anything absorbent can be used as an inner layer (baby feels wetness) and/or soaker layer.

That help?
