DD question & VB 'ah-ha' moment

So If I'm making a fitted out of the DD AIO pattern, do I sew it up the same way? Stitch the layers together and then put the elastic in the seam allowance?

Also I finally found a happy medium to the VB pattern -- if some of you remember I was having ALOT of issues with the large, it was way too big. So then I tried medium long, and it doesn't cover enough of her butt! So I tried large with no seam allowance and that works great Not as trim as I would like between the legs, but better than it was!

On the DD question, yes you still sew the elastic to the seam allowance for a fitted. It just doesn't really matter if the leg rolls in or out. In fact, you could just use the inner fabric pattern for the outer and inner, and even sew a casing if you want.

On the VB AIO front... Great news! To make the crotch trimmer... One thing I accidentally did with the medium-long was I cut my PUL with the INNER fabric pattern. Oops! So I then had to cut out more from my inner fabric so I still had the crescent shape in the leg between the two patterns. It turned out GREAT and was nice and trim, yet still holds everything in. So don't be afraid to play around with redrawing leg lines to meet your needs. If something isn't covering the butt enough, make the back part of the leg be wider. I've had to do that a few times on my own pattern... started out with the front and back being symmetrical, which is NOT right. And gradually I've added more and more to the butt until it was where I wanted it.

These patterns are designed to fit alot of different children, which means that sometimes the fit isn't as good as it could be on one particular child. That's the beauty of sewing your own - you can deviate from the pattern as much as you want!

Well that's what I would be doing, is using the inner, not the outer. And I wondered if you still did the elastic in the seam allowance or not. I've never done casing for elastic, so I guess I need to look that up. Do I just sew in the elastic, or tack it down? And then I would sew around the elastic?

The VB pattern I have is the fitted, not the AIO. I find it funny you thought it was... it seems everytime I mention it everyone thinks it's the AIO

I had to go back and read your first post 'cause I thought it was the VB AIO pattern you had too! It's the DD AIO pattern you have!

I've made fitteds out of my VB AIO pattern and did exactly as described... inner fabric lines and then put the elastic in the seam allowance, continue as normal.

When you sew a casing, you tack the ends down, flip the diaper right side out and then sew beside the elastic without catching the elastic. I LOVE casings. I find it easier to manage than trying to stretch and stitch at the same time. Some people tack one end of the elastic, flip, sew the channel and then pull the elastic through and then tack the other end of the elastic down. Others sew the casing and then put the elastic in but personally I like to tack and then sew around the elastic. I had enough of threading elastic through with a safety pin when I was a kid. Mom used to give me the threading through job and I'm not a big fan of it as a result

LOL I think that's why I'm so intimated by casings, my mom used to make scrunchies to sell and I'd have to thread the elastic through the material for her
