okay, so.... White Speedylock 1600

Who has it and what do you love about it? What do you not like about it? I can get it on sale right now for $299 (I'm in Canada) and am trying to reason with myself instead of just going for it. I will be using it to make wipes and soakers/inserts for my pocket diapers. I'll probably make a few serged fitteds as well as some of Brogan's clothes (basic shirts and pants etc).

I know a few people have mentioned this machine in other threads but I'm hoping to get a few replies in one spot.

Thanks!

What I've heard from my local sewing machine shop is that the 1600 jumps time a lot thats why I didn't buy it, but I've read good reviews on it. I have the White Superlock 1934D and I paid $299 for it and love it.

I have it and so far I love it!! I bought it after having a few ladies from here tell me they loved theirs. It was $199 (USD) for me. Good luck!

I've been wondering the same thing! There are very mixed reviews at joann.com

Honestly, I went to Joann's to buy a serger and the sales lady whispered to me, "don't buy that one" and gave me a card to a local shop. Upon arriving there she had the VERY same serger for $199.00, it was the speedylock 1600 and I told her what the lady at joann's had done and that she had sent me to her shop and she said, Yeah, we aren't even gonna carry the 1600 anymore cuz we end up having to service them too much. So, take that for what its worth. I spent $100.00 more on the one she recommended, but I got a 5 year warranty, and 2 free classes.

I bought the 1600 and haven't had any problems with it. It works fine. I have done 4layers of thicker hemp with no problems. I haven't seen it skip/jump at all(unlike my regular machine, lol). I have it on a slippery desk. IMO it's a good starter machine. I use it mainly for soakers and breastpads.
