Cover question

Can I make a cover out of cheap fleece if I use two layers?? Has anyone ever done this??

I have a cover made out of fleece that I got on ebay and it looks like "cheap" fleece... works great except for compression wicking.

Absolutely!

It may be bulky so you might also try one layer thick fleece and one layer microfleece which also can work. It's sometimes so hard to know what exactly will hold and how many layers you need, whether it's cheap or not.

I've used "cheap fleece" from Walmart as a one-layer cover and it worked great! So try it out. Compression wicking is normal for fleece, of course. Of the cheap fleeces at Walmart, I think the $2+/yd stuff requires 2 layers, and the $5+/yd stuff only requires one layer. I've used a remnant (30% off) of the latter, and it works great, even overnight. I just wish I'd done my tabs better so they'd completely cover the diaper.

Anyway, 2 layers will probably work fine, and 1 layer MIGHT work, but might not. Maybe cut out a diaper cut and pin it around a fitted or prefold to try it out as one layer, and then if it leaks, you can sew it into a 2 layer cover, and if it doesn't leak, you can sew it as a one layer cover? Just an idea.

thanks guys!! Cause I have this REALLY cute cow print that would look so cute on my son's little bum!

Should I use touchtape or snaps for covers?? I just ordered both today so I have a choice.

Do you have a snap press? If not, I don't think many other kinds of snaps are heavy duty enough, so I would use the touchtape.

I just ordered a snap press today from the snap store..

another question.. can I t+t a fleece cover?? I don't have a serger. The one fleece cover I have is t+t with the outer fleece rolled in ( not sure how to do that ) Do you have to roll it in?
Yup, I do it all the time! There is a thread here for a pictoral tutorial on how to make fleece roll in at the legs (by StrawHatBrat but *in my experience* on a double sided fleece cover it's not neccesary (there's nothing to wick to or from as both sides are fleece). There might be reasons I'm missing why this wouldn't work in certain cases but I've never had any problems. I also do a leg casing with my topstitching, not sure if this has any effect on the wicking.

... and congrats on the snap press... where's that pouting, jealous smiley...

I'm glad to hear that cheap fleece works. I'm planning on using up some fleece I have for a cover. I was planning on making it one full layer with an additional layer cut as a large rectangle on the inside, but not a full layer. Sort of like the Bumpy wraps. I hope this works!

Good luck.
