MARCH Declutter Challenge! - Page 2

I have been working on decluttering.
DS's room-packed up a large box of no longer fit items to ship to my sister.
DD's room-packed up some of her old clothes to donate.
Our room-what a disaster. Last month I packed up 13 bags of our clothes. The shelter is coming to pick them up on Tuesday.
Today- I went through our room and packed up 5 empty shoe boxes and brought them to the curb for recycling plus filled 2 bags of garbage and donated 1 old tv.

I feel like I have not even made the tiniest dent. For every item I get rid of it seems like 3 more take its place. I only have week-ends to work on this and March is birthday bonanza month in our family but I really want to try to get rid of more stuff before the month is out. Thank you for making me accountable for getting rid of stuff so I can lead a less cluttered life.

I'm in!

I may not get to 200, since we don't have much extra stuff. We move frequently are already low-clutter...AND have been decluttering rabidly for several months now.

But, hey, I'm ALWAYS up for getting rid of more stuff.

I have four paper bags filled for the Salvation Army....waiting to go. That'll be more first batch and it probably numbers 40. Oh, and there's a plastic bag with about 7 baby outfits in it to go, too.

So, maybe I can easily get to 200. So far, I'm almost a quarter of the way there without even trying.

I cleaned out my medicine cabinet the other day, and got rid of a couple half-empty, dried-out things. I also chucked a piece of dd's artwork. Then today, I went through our paperwork drawer and culled a number of things. I am counting 17 pieces of paper or sets of papers. That's 20 items, plus the 2 from before.

Total: 22.

BY,

You reminded me that I cleaned out my medicine cabinet the other day. I got rid of duplicate bottles of dog shampoo, combining them, tossed some Skin-So-Soft (WHO?! bought that?) and a bunch of other 'beauty' products that never get used.

I tossed about 15 items.

This weekend...

Mended a rugby and a pair of cargo pants. (Now they are hanging in my boys' closet, ready to be called into service, instead of malingering in my mending box! )

Washed my kids' sleeping bags and put them away so they are ready for sleepover use.

Gathered all the family luggage into one central "pile" , and assessed it. (Unfortuantely, this motivated my daughter to "go on holiday" so some of her luggage is now scattered again. : )

Sent a big box with my sister to the kiddie consignment shop.

freecycle

I just typed in www.freecycle.com. How do you ever get into it? It just looks like another search engine. I don't see how you post and respond to them.

It's:
http://www.freecycle.org/

Once you're there, you choose your geographic area, then you will see a list of lists to view or join. They list the member count too, so if you're between areas, you can choose the best one.

Good luck

While I was cleaning out my dining room built-in, I cleared out another item of clutter. I also mailed out a package with four items I sold in it. That makes another 5 things.

Total: 27

I am already over halfway to my goal, maybe I was shooting too low. We'll see.

I'm in. It will be a strange month for us as we will be gone for two weekends so I'll try to make realistic goals.
I am proud of myself. A co-worker gave me two huge bags of clothes and instead of letting them linger, I brought the bags in right away, sorted them at the front door, bagged what I didn't want and immediately freecycled them. The adult clothes and half the kids clothes are gone. Soooo...

1. get rid of additional clothes from the co-workers bags
2. go through boxes for my sister and seperate and label the boxes by sex (she has her u/s on the 18th and hoping to know what the baby is) and get the toy box organized to fit everything in it. Take to her by end of month if at all possible.
3. Put away laundry. I am so behind.

Dh's goal is to do the garage however we're in the midwest and its been snowing here the last couple days so unless we get a really warm weekend this weekend, that's not happening. My goal for him is that he takes down the old baby gate and puts a new one up.

I do have to report that thanks to my father, we now have two working toilets upstairs again. They had not been working for months and we couldn't figure out why. DC had managed to get a brush down one and deordorant down the other. All better and that was the most important accomplishment of all!

This list may be subject to change as I have a minute to actually sit down and think about what needs done this month.

my goal for the month was 200, but i'm already up to 117, so i'm going to up my goal to 300. today i went through my drawers and maternity clothes. this week i plan on going through my cd's and dvd's and will be realistic as to what i actually may watch or listen to again. i'm also going to go through my winter wear like scarves, gloves, etc. since i seem to have collected like 5 of each for each member of the family.

I'm in for this month too... I don't expect to get to everything but here are my three areas

1) Children's Toys

2) Garden and gardening accroutements. I hope this counts because this is the now or never time of year for weeding for me and I have a bunch of seeds and tools etc to sort out and use. Also I have to declutter the snails.
3)My little boys' closet, especially the top shelf which is a catch all.

Fantasy/ Backburner task- photos into photo boxes. Discarding extras and unneeded ones.

I got the Hanson stuff out of the house...

25 shirts
10 Video tapes
box of posters
12 cd's
and a few more things....WHEW!!!...This should count as the whole month for me....I having been holding onto that stuff for almost 8 years now!!!!!!!!!

I feel so liberated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My goal for the month is 500 and I am currently up to 66 items gone. The problem this month has not been finding the clutter but finding the time to sort through it all.

I'm nearly done w/ the laundry and someone's picking up the last of the clothes tom. Main thing left is those boxes. Hopefully I'll get to them this weekend.

I went through the bathroom shelves last night while dd was taking her bath. Tossed all the old stuff- lotions in scents we can't stand, icky old bath toys... I think i'm up to 37 total now.
I ahve a pile in ds' room of over 200 items that has been sitting for a few weeks so I won't count those.

My focus is the kids toys and excess kitchen stuff ( I think we have about 40 mugs?)

I'm so inspired by all of you!
I have some serious decluttering to do.. I know I'm joining a little late, but better late than never, right?!
I think I will try for 150 items and see how it goes. Hopefully I will get on a roll and surpass that!
