Growth spurt, anyone?

Anyone hit that 3 month growth spurt yet?

I thought we hit it early a week and a half ago. He nursed constantly for 2 nights and then grew out of all his sleepers! But now he's been up every 1 1/2 hours every night this week. Prior to this, he was sleeping for 7 or 8 hours straight every night for like a month! I know I've got no right to complain since he was sleeping so well, but I'm not accustomed to getting such small spurts of sleep. I can't nurse side-lying because of shoulder issues and I'm getting very tired of getting up every hour to nurse. He hasn't slept for more than 2 hours at a time all week long, and hasn't napped well either. His colic had improved, but now it's getting bad again. Does anyone know what's going on? Is the digestive system just re-vamping itself again? Can growth spurts last longer than a few days?

I've had about 12 hours of sleep in the last 72 hours, and I'm going crazy!!! I'm also very worried about him not getting his usual long stretches of sleep. Any advice?

YES. i think ava had 2 recently. she's in 9 MONTH onesies!!! she cannot fit into any 6mos anymore. !!!!!!!

oops i apparently deleted the rest of my post. LOL!!

anyway, yes she's been doing this recently too...she had been sleeping LOOONG stretches and then just suddenly stopped 3 days ago and was up more at night (woke up twice, which is a lot for her). she has also been choosing to catnap instead of her signature 3-4hr naps.

i feel the same as you - who am i to complain, since overall it's pretty good...but...um...i don't care! i'm complaining! it sucks!! LOL

Me too!

I'm glad you posted this because this is exactly what we're dealing with over here. My DD also went through a nursing spree about 2 weeks ago, grew TONS, and I thought that was it. She was still sleeping well- slept through the night actually- from 6 weeks of age until this week. Now the last 5 nights it's been up every 2-3 hours or even less with lots of tiny catnaps during the day- not long enough to get much done! (Put baby down, go pee, grab quick snack... she's up again!)

Last night she slept a longer stretch (4-5 hrs) at first, then woke frequently the rest of the night. Maybe my milk is finally catching up to her? She's also suddenly spitting up/colicky again, after weeks of it disappearing. I think it's all just the supply/demand milk thing self-regulating.

For both of our sakes, I hope this is just a growth spurt, and our babes will be back to their night-sleeping soon. Keep me updated!

Well, last night was a bit better. He only woke up 3 times instead of 7!

He also slept for a 5 hour nap today, which is unheard of for him! We're usually lucky to get 2 one or two hour naps out of him. I'm hoping that we're entering the tired out phase of the spurt. My milk seems to be more plentiful, too.

How's everybody else doing? Any progress?

I'm glad to see this post, too, because we've had major night wakings the past two nights. The first night ds woke 8 times to feed - about once every hour and a half. OMG, I was sooo tired yesterday morning! Last night was pretty tiring as well. He slept 3hrs, then 2, then was up every hour until 8am.

What I'm wondering, though, is: is this a growth spurt or is he just having major gas problems at the moment? I'm not sure if ds is always waking hungry. He wakes and is upset, wriggling around, sometimes passing gas. We've had a harder time burping him at night for some reason and this morning he let out a huge belch. Every time I offer to feed him he does eat a lot and seems to be hungry, but I can't help wondering if sometimes it was just gas anyway? I assumed it was a growth spurt, though.

Boy, it's hard to figure babies out sometimes

Well, I was convinced it wasn't gas but growth, but your post got me thinking that perhaps they are gassier now bnecause they are simply eating more in the night and their stomachs are growing to accommodate both more milk and more air, so it seems like more to us.

DD is gaining so much in motor skills right now (reaching for things are not missing, etc.) that I read that once they learn a new skill, they don't sleep well because they like to practice it throughout the night. maybe the squirming is because it feels different to them, more in control, to move like that and they want to do it again and again.

us too...incidently, sky had her growthspurt while we were out of town and all of a sudden, she was scrunched into all her sleeper outfits!! as soon as we got home i pulled out all her 3-6 month clothes. sleeping has really changed lately too...and not in a good way. it seems like she wakes up fussy every 1.5 hours but doesn't initially want to eat. so as soon as i start to fall back asleep, she starts crying and then wants to eat. but she's not eating a lot when she does eat. during the day she eats like a champ, but nighttime feedings...well...
how long will this last?!?

growth spurting here too!

she is never detatched right now!!

however she is still wearing some newborn clothes at the grand age of 3 1/2 months!!

people still do the whole poiting her out because she is such a young baby thing that they do with newborns and are amazed to fin out that she is as old as she is and ask if she was premature - only by 11 days!!

she is just my tiny little girl - but i am not sure for how much longer if she keeps eating like she is!

I think Savannah's growth spurt hit at midnight this morning. She hasn't woken up at midnight in, um, two months! Catnap all day today too, by 6:00 she was wiped.

Luka woke up 3 times last night, which is more than he ever has (I knew it couldn't last!). I put a short sleeve romper on him today with babylegs because I'm worried it won't fit when it's actually warm- it fits pretty snugly now and it's 3/6 mos! Of course, he wears prefolds which can be pretty bulky, I'm sure if he was in sposies he'd wear 3/6 for a lot longer.
To top it all off, I have mastitis AGAIN (round 5 in 2.5 mos!) so I really could have used some sleep!!!

Outgrew blankets?

Me again. Adah has been sleeping better but still not through the night like she had been from 6-10 weeks of age.

I DID notice, though, that as she hit this growth spurt, she outgrew the blankets I had been using to swaddle her in. My theory is that since she could wiggle her chubby little arms out, she was waking herself up. I found one larger blanket that still fits and that seemed to be the key. She is only waking 1-2x/night now swaddled in the larger blanket.

Something to think about, if you're still having a hard time...

Mary
