simple question

How long does the average circumcision take? Five minutes? Ten minutes?

(From the first ripping to the last cutting, or whatever.)

I wouldn't swear by this, but I believe the procedure itself lasts 15-20 minutes.

Yeah, I would also say it takes at least 15 minutes. If it is done too quickly there is more of a chance of bleeding.

Having assisted, I'd say the whole procedure takes 5-10 minutes. However, local (injected) anesthetic takes at least 5 minutes to take effect, so, if it's used and allowed to take effect, the procedure would take about 10-15 minutes total.

It could take longer though too, if the circumcision provider is less experienced (like a resident), if it's being used as a 'teaching case', or if immediate complications (like excessive bleeding) arise.

My son was gone for 10 minutes when he was circed (our first, we didn't know, our second is intact)

I have removed many posts from this thread that detoured in a religious direction. The Case Agains Circumcision forum does not host discussion of religious circ.

This question can be answered here as it regards medical circumcision.

If one has questions about religious circ, those topics may be discussed respectfully in our Religious Studies forum.
