shannon - my son had some weird phobia about getting his hair wet for about 3 months (dave turned on the showerhead unexpectedly and scared the CRAP out of rowan...literally. he vomited and took a crap at the same time he was so scared. not one of our finer moments.) dave finally got him back to liking baths again (though hair wetting is still not his favorite) which was a miracle...AAAnyway...the reason i'm saying this is to say that the only way dave used to get rowan to let him get his hair wet is if he played "waterfall" with him...he'd let rowan pour water on his bath toys, pretend he was the waterfall, etc...

now he uses a washcloth to get his hair wet instead of the pouring method bc rowan's still a bit squeamish from the showerhead incident...

just throwin' out ideas...of course, believe me, i KNOW how impossible it can be to get kids to like it so feel free to just chuckle softly at me knowingly and continue what you're doing. LOL

We use the washcloth hair wetting method for Jevin too. LOL He doesnt like water dumping. I still dont use any soap/shampoo on his hair though. Just his body/face now that he is older. His hair never looks greasy either. Weird.....I wash mine every other day and mine looks way greasier than his. LOL

rowan's hair would look AWFUL if we never used shampoo...mostly bc it's so long i guess...

Jimmy's hair doesn't get greasy either..maybe because it's so short. I do use babywash on his hair every other week or so, because I like the smell, but after reading the article in the new Mothering about which soaps are safe, I'm not so sure. Mikayla's hair is so long and thick, that I'd be afraid of what it would look like if I didn't wash it at least twice a week.

We started off with 2-3 baths a week. Now we give ds one almost every night because he *loves* baths. He is so happy in the tub and loves to hang around and splash (that's a new development ). We don't clean him with each bath, though, and we only wash his hair a couple of times a week. Actually, he really loves having his hair washed, too, and makes the cutest faces when having his scalp massaged.

The only reason we've started the nightly bath is to kind of establish a bedtime routine. It's nice to let him know that nighttime is around the corner. Not like it's helped him to sleep any longer, but that's ok .
