Homeschooling Preschoolers March06 - Page 8

Hi Everyone,
Right now, ds is completely obsessed with the Magic Treehouse books. We are about to plant a garden, and yesterday we did art projects (making puppets) with friends. Today we went to the beach and poked around. I love reading what everyone is up too. (: Michelle

That's my guy, too. I think some of it is sleep related. I think I will have to unschool because ds is so resistant to any kind of suggestion. He won't demonstrate knowledge upon request, but if he thinks someone really doesn't know something he is happy to explain. Just part of the reason the bootcamp, uh I mean school, that we tried didn't work out.

Ds is funny when we drive dh to work, he siezes the opportunity to ask dh to explain something to him (pistons, outerspace, whatever). Dh will spout off his fount of knowledge but if he tries to talk about something else, ds just dismisses him and says "oh, we'll talk about that tomorrow."

Today we had a long overdue trip to the playground and ds watercolored during dinner (which was a vast improvement to what he usually does. He tends to be very impatient because after dinner is playtime with daddy).

I got ds the first CD set which I will probably put in his Easter basket so I hope he feels similarly. He loved Charlotte's Web. Audio stories are great for us because it drives me crazy to read aloud while ds bounces around. 30 minutes is about my limit. Ds is also really sensitive to noises which means he actually likes things like the TV on for background noise so he isn't startled by the phone ringing or me speaking suddenly.

Science Lesson

We had a lovely science lesson today. We caught a mouse and ds insisted on examining it very carefully by poking it with a toothpick. It was particularly exciting because it had a dropping on it's way out.

Reminds me of the time my son found a dead fly near the window and exclaimed, "Mommy, there's worms coming out of the fly's butt!!"

All the "spitdrinks" were from ds, btw. It's his favorite smiley for some reason.
