Ear infection Vax.

Alright,

I'm sure this has been covered to death, but I have to ask just one little thing.

So today i woke up to the local news talking about the new ear infection vaccine.. they were talking about it not coming out until atleast 2007.. blah blah blah..

they also said that Ear infections were normally Viral.. (80-90% of them were) and that the ear infection vaccine only covers the Bacterial ones that can cause all these problems if not treated.. (mennigitis(sp?) being the one i remember clearly)

So basically, if i understand.. they are making a vaccine for a ear infection you can only get at the most 20% of the time?

What? why??

I'm glad they said that on the news.. so people might think twice about it.

one of the reasons this caught me in my half sleep today was my mom is OBSESSED with my childs ears. For the last 18 months .. or miranda's whole life she has been telling me i need to get her checked for a ear infection. "she's pulling on her ears.." "her ear looks red" "why hasn't she been checked out by a doctor for her ears yet?" (for the fun of it, she has been checked out every once inawhile for ear problems.)

now my mom is the most NON vaccine person I know, not to mention Anti Doctor.. but If I hear this ear infection stuff for just one more month I'm going to KILL HER!! she's driving me insane!! lol

anyone got any info on ear infections that maybe i can send to her? miranda doesn't have any ear infections. she's never had a ear infection.. and according to the rest of the world, it's not that she won't get one, it when will she get one. lol

So i thought with all this ear infection VAX talk lately someone might of pulled up some good info on ear infections.

thanks everyone!

The last "ear infection" vaccine was Prevnar,

"Although the vaccine would be a major advance, it is not perfect. There are over 80 types of pneumococcus and this vaccine covers only seven."

The new ear infection vaccine will cover 11 types.

Another vaccine that was tested with the placebo being, another vaccine! Hep A was used in the "control group".

When vaccines are studied this way, you can make the reaction rate seem "normal", since you would have a similar number of children reacting frm from the Hep A vaccine, it appears that the reactions are "expected" and "normal".

Pick up a copy of Dr Robert Mendelsohn's Book, How To Raise A Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor, written by a pediatrician. There's a good section on ear infections. Cover to cover the book is a good read.

One trick my daughter found for incipient ear discomfort (her kids mostly don't get infections) is to have the child sleep way propped up: even using their car seat to get a steep enough angle. This changes the drainage and keeps the whatever it is from getting congested.

She also uses the olive oil with garlic and the warm onion compresses. My grandchildren have never had antibiotics for anything (knock on wood) although the medical folks do try to push them.

Just take them to a chiro. Works EVERY time. I can't stress that enough. So many people think I'm crazy, but darn it it works.

my 2 cents

ear candling works like a charm to relieve the ears. My kids ask for it now when their ears start to bug them.

i've been offline for quite awhile but just wanted to chime in here -

Another STUPID, USELESS vaccine.

I've had 3 ear infections this year - well, actually they were all within the first 6 weeks of the year. From what I have gathered this wonderful chain of events was started by strep throat.

Will this be a vaccine for all bacterial causes of ear infections?
Of course not! It would impossible.

Stupid,Stupid,Stupid.

I also second the ear candling. Forgot about that one earlier. Glad there was somebody else to help out.
