Hair Elements Test Results

I don't come over to this forum often but I have a feeling I'll be here a lot now!

I got dd's (10 months old) hair elements test results and she is VERY high in mercury, aluminum, tin, silver and arsenic. We have been having food intolerance issues and some SERIOUS sleep issues so I've been on the SCDiet (she has too but is still mostly b'fed.)

I'm freaking out here! Please tell me what you know about this and chelation or whatever needs to come next.

BTW, she has been vaxed up to this point. She will not be at her 1 year check!

Got it done through Direct Laboratory Services. I can't find the link right now but I think I ordered it through doctorsdata.com

Mercury and Aluminum are from vaccines.

what made you decide to have the testing done?

the mamas over on the special needs parenting can probably give you more info on chelation. I would tend to assume that 10 months might be a bit too young to begin chelation.

I decided to have it done b/c dd has always had major sleep problems and many food sensitivities plus reflux, etc... AND I had amalgam fillings removed when she was only 3 mos. old. I spend a lot of time in Health and Healing and put 2 and 2 together.

The short answer is, I suspected it. Oh, how I wish I could go back and not vax and NOT go to the f***ing dentist!

If it is of any comfort, Annikate, I worry most when I see kiddies with real problems who have abnormally low levels of mercury in their system. They are the ones at most risk of autisms spectrum disorders, because they aren't excreting it, they are accumulating it.

There has been a lot of work done on Apo-E genes. They have found that Ape-E 4 gene types have difficulty excreting it, so it might be worth your while asking around to see if you can have her apo - typed.

I'm not sure what you mean by serious sleep issues. I could have said that about my oldest, but in retrospect that was just him. Both boys had, and have completely different sleeping patterns. They aren't vaccinated. They are just them.

I used to get frustrated when mothers used to say "What's wrong with your children? Why don't they sleep through the night? I couldn't stand it if mine woke 3 or 4 times a night!"

But it didn't bother me, because I accepted and rolled with it, and didn't let it derail my equilibrium. I did, for a while, wonder why it was I didn't have this model baby everyone else had... but then as I got to know people, I found that a lot of people "say" they have model children, but the reality was quite different.

By the time my oldest got to 10 months ... he was sleeping for 20 minutes during the day, going down about 8 p.m., had 3 - 4 night feeds, and was up at 5.30 a.m for the day.

That was normal for him.

I'm pretty new here but it is my understanding that you would have cause to worry if there weren't high levels of metals in her hair. If she were accumulating metals and unable to get rid of them then there would be low levels of these things in a hair analysis which would mean she was storing the metals in her organs. Since she has high levels I would think that her body is doing just fine excreting what it needs to.

Okay! That totally makes sense MT and tysmama. Thank you. That takes A LOT of the worry from my mind tonight.

Up until last week, by sleep issues I mean never sleeping *more* than 2 hours in a row (well, only twice in her life) and 2 hours in a row was a good night! And for naps she'd do 30 minutes a day IF she had one. Even as a newborn she was this way. Last week she started doing much better with both sleep stretches (now 3-4 hours) and naps- yippee! I attribute this development to the SCDiet we're on.

Totally OT: MT I've been reading with much interest the immunology thread. I it, even if it is a bit much for my tired brain to handle most nights!

Hey, MT - what about the results for calcium, magnesium, etc...
dd is very low in these 2 especially. Does that mean she needs a supplement? Or if I increase them will she get them through b'milk?

PM JaneS. She has a very good understanding of the DDI hair analysis and the counting rules. Good decision to not vax at the 1 year mark. I made the same decision and acually had Dr. Krigsman from Thoughtful House tell me that he believed the 12 mo MMR would have done her in as far as being on the spectrum.

We use chelation for our oldest son, and we are expecting hair tests back any day for myself and the other four children.

My son showed very little mercury in his hair test and met the counting rules for delayed mineral transport, which means he isn't an excretor.

We have recieved a lot of guidance from the autism mercury yahoo group.

We have been using the Andy Cutler method of chelation. I read about parents using ALA only on the aut/merc list as a chelator.
ALA is great for chelating arsenic, merc, and the other things you mentioned your child has, and you can get it over the counter. I would consult the group on it though, because the protocol for ALA is every 3 hours 24/7 for 3 days then off for 4-11 days. They are a great resource for questions. They give their children supplements to support the body during chelation, many that can be given in a liquid form to children who are too young to swallow a capsule.

Everything I have read says that early detection and treatment is critical. My understanding would be that a person could not be too young to get this toxic stuff out.

There are people on the list chelating really young children....but I don't know about ten months old. They dose by mixing the supplements in applesause or yogurt and squirting it in the mouth with one of those syringe type medication givers.

Both of my kids were the same way...they never slept for more than 2 hours at a time (and my ds often woke up every hour on the hour at night) while they were still nursing. Once they weaned, they started sleeping longer. I just figured the frequent waking was out of habit.
