My nephew(vaxed btw) who lives 2 blocks away has been diagnosed with the chiccky pox. I have 1 vaxed son and one not vaxed. It would be so nice to have them exposed now when they are young. BUT I have a 3 week old baby and wonder about the wisdom of her chancing getting it...

Any info on babies and pox??

Did you have chicken pox as a kid? Are you nursing? If yes, then the baby will be geting anti-bodies from you to help fight it off, if she even gets it. Given how rare "wild" chicken pox is getting, if I had a chance to expose my kids, I would definitely take it, but I'm nursing and pretty sure I had cp as a kid.

Yes I definatly had it in first grade...baby is nursing. sil brought a contaminated sucker to our door and the boys are sucking on it as we speak...it feels so creepy getting my kids sick on purpose. I might call my naturopath and see what she says about ways to make the pox as painless as possible. Any one here had a small baby with pox before. FYI we have probably already been exposed as he spent several hours at our house on Friday.

CP is not passed on that easily at all. It actually takes saliva to get contaminated. Sometimes it takes the actual pox itself to be sniffed or eaten.

My sister got it from me when she was 2 months old. She had two pox and wasn't sick at all. She was ebf at the time.

Gitti, pox sniffing? : We just passed around a bowl of crackers and shared sippy cups when we had our party. I wonder if we could've induced the boys to lick a pox. . .
(not laughing at you, and know what you say is true, just the image of pox sniffing has got me giggling!)

Sniffin and snackin?

Well, I'm feeling clever. They can have lollipops (what a special treat!) BUT I also intend (should Iget the option) to gently touch an active pox andt then
gently say, "Hey kids, come here? Is that a boogie in your nose. Let me see." Insert infected finger directly onto mucus membranes.

Psst... don't tell my kids. They aren't crazy about nose touching and if THIS plan ever got out, I'd never get to wipe snot off my three year old's nose again!

As for infants... check it out. I had an opportunity (drat) when Anika was about one and a very open, trustworthy PA convinced me to wait. I won't give her details, as I didn't know her sources for complications etc. But study up on it. Obviously infants have been exposed for centuries. Perhaps nursing and lack of fever reducers really makes it safer than it is for the general population.
