CDing and travel

Has anyone travelled and still managed to cloth diaper? If so, I'm looking for tips. We're going home for a visit for about 1 week and staying with the in-laws. Then later this month we are off to a conference for a weekend and staying in a hotel....

The in-laws have a washer and dryer but I'm not sure how I am going to rinse the diapers...here we use the dettachable shower head...

At the hotel I guess I could had wash and hang to dry?

I think this sounds like a lot of work...thinking of buying disposables (7th generation) for the trips...is that bad? .

Just wondering if anyone has actually done CDing successfully on the go!

I don't rinse our diapers, so that wouldn't be an issue for us. It's just creamy breastmilk poop right now, so no real need to rinse. I do diaper laundry every 2-3 days and we don't have any stink issues.

I can see the convenience of disposables for a short amount of time. We're going to see my dh's family (staying with his aunt) soon and I'm debating on cloth or sposies. We'll probaly just stick with cloth since she does have a washer and dryer, and Samara's poops aren't very offensive yet. If we were staying in a hotel then I'd do sposies.

We went away for a long weekend and stayed at a B&B. We decided to take 'sposies (7th generation) to make things easier. We used a washcloth for cleanups and hung that up to dry between changes. If we had been staying with relatives we might have used cloth but it would been hard to take so many diapers with us when there was no access to a washer.

We were away from home for a couple days recently. I just stuffed the diapers into plastic bags and washed them when we came home. No problem. I didn't rinse them.

My midwife actually took her baby on a 4 month road trip!! They just threw the diapers into a plastic container on top of the car and visited a laundromat every couple of days.

But I'm sure there wouldn't be any dire consequences if you used 7th Generation disposables for a few days, either.

Not a member of the December forum, but adding my thoughts! The longest we've ever traveled with ds was three days when we were visiting my brother. We used our cd's and just put them in a big plastic garbage bag then brought them home to wash. We were (are) still in the bf/nonrinsing poo stage, so that wasn't an issue. My SIL did offer the washer to us, but I didn't see the point since we were headed home soon. My brother did make a big deal about that bag of dirty diapers and wouldn't carry it to the car!

If you have laundry access, I'd continue with cloth, but I just love them so much! Are you opposed to swishing in the toilet? I also wouldn't think that you would need to even hand wash at the hotel. Just rinse a bit and keep them in a bag. They shouldn't mildew in three days.

The only issue we had was how bulky they are. The bag with the diapers was larger than the bag with our clothes!

CDing when traveling

We went out of town last weekend - just an overnighter - in a hotel. I had received a package of sposies for Xmas from a well meaning family friend - so I decided we'd use them for the trip. Fin has never had a real blow out - and of course she shat all up her back - major blow out - at the Sushi restaurant that had no changing table/bench on which to change the little angel. I was so missing our cloth dipes at that moment! For a weekend trip - next time I'll just take an old cat litter bucket w/ a lid in the car and keep the dirty dipes in that until we get home to wash. For a longer trip - it would depend if the hotel had laundry or not - some hotels have washers/dryers. At my inlaws I'd use their washer dryer and CD. maybe you could get some of those Kushies liners that flush the poops away to eliminate the rinsing step? Good luck!

I've done both on trips (week long trips). Once I had to bring dirty dipes home on an airplane and I wouldnt do that again. On a roadtrip trip it was easier cause we just had 2 wet bags (for double bagging! LOL) in the car and put them all in there and washed once we got there and before we came home (I dont rinse either.) But for flight trips......I will just use sposies. When we went to Hawaii I used 7th gen (with ds, Daphne hasnt been yet.)

Last year we went to Amsterdam with DS and I didn't take anything but training pants and CDs. I washed them out in the hotel sink/shower and let them dry by the radiator. Of course...big disclaimer...we were ECing so didn't have so many wet diapers and no poopy ones at all.

We just got back from a week away in a home with washer and drier. That was no problem at all. And even ECing with DD we still have lots of wet diapers. The traveling scared me, but on the plane we just had a wet bag and I made sure that we brought a carry-on full of CDs just in case, but we never even used all the diapers in the dipe bag, let alone using that extra bagful.

For a weekend hotel trip, I'd just haul all the diapers home again in a wet bag. Rinse out the poopy ones in the toilet and bring em back! Or get one of those tiny bottles of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap in peppermint and use that to get the worst stuff out. The peppermint really does work magic in terms of smell.

I just can't bring myself to use disposables anymore having caught the CD bug. It seems sacriligeous (Sp?) to put crunchy paper on my sweet baby's soft skin! I felt so self-righteous on the airplane.

dd and i just spent 6 days at my parents house and i was debating this very thing for days before we left. having mentioned it to my dad, he ended up buying sposies so in the end, i decided to use them since he'd already purchased them. i used CD on the trip to and from their house. i think i'd do differently next time... i had WAY too many accidents with the sposies - poo up her back, down her leg, etc.... and then yesterday my parents sent me a care package and sent the left over sposies to me!?!

I went on several trips in the 2 yrs. my oldest was CD'd and used cloth almost all of them (aside from the one where I was one of 5 chaperones for 40 high school kids). We even hiked into the woods for a 3 day camping trip with CDs one time when he was about 6 mos. old!
I don't rinse diapers, I shake them into the toilet when they get older (and occasionally use some TP to wipe some sticky clumps off), but I don't do anything at all until they start to eat a lot of solids. We wash diapers every 2-4 days and the poop just sits on the diaper in the pail (or bag if we're out)- no problems so far.
Does the hotel have a washer and dryer? If so I'd use cloth on both trips. From what I've heard about sposies, you'll be washing poopy clothes instead of poopy dipes if you go with them. And it would sure suck to have the poor babe get a rash on vacation!

if i had access to laundry, i would cd. the expense of a laundry would prob. be much cheaper than the sposies (i woudl be careful going to a laundry though...i can imagine someone not aware of cd'ing refusing to allow you to launder there, kwim?).
if i didnt have access to laundry and was gonig to be away more than 3 days (including travel time), i guess i woudl use sposies, although i woudl hate it!

Guilty, I am guilty...

I have all of the supplies, for cloth diapers, but I have yet to use them. I told myself that I would start using them when she grew out of the newborn size. She grew out of them, but my MIL accidentally bought two packs of the wrong size, so I said that I would switch to cloth when those ran out. I am nearly finished with the second pack. I wonder what I will do. I can tell you that disposables are pretty awesomely convenient, especially when traveling. The last thing you need on a trip is the hassle of washing diapers. We went to California for a week, and I couldn't even get a load of regular clothes washed. boy am I lazy. guilty too! God do I feel guilty. But it sure has been nice.

We drove from CA to MN with a 12 mo old in cloith. ttried to use disp. but Ella got such a rash we couldn't. I just packed the diapers in the covers, we had about 18 covers then, ready to go like AIOs. I would shake/dunk off poos like normal and put them in a plastic garbage bag in the back of the station wagon. Whenever we stopped for the night I would wash them in hotels coin op machines.

that being said, I am swithching to disp for the next two weeks becasuse of my surgery mon. I will get more help from DH if he is in disp. And I will not be able to haul laundry up and down stairs for two weeks. Use what is best for you and your family.
