Retraction-> infection... how?

post #1 of 4

Okay, I understand how forcibly retracting a child's foreskin will cause tears and wounds and THAT can lead to infection.
What I don't understand is how it leads to recurrent life long infections.
If I retract Charlie's foreskin now (no I do NOT plan on it), how does that lead to him being circ'ed for recurrent infections when he's 35?
What am I missing?

Many parents have been told by health care professionals or advice-givers to retract their son's foreskin not just once, but at every single diaper change. That can lead to longterm problems with healing and areas that in fact never completely (or correctly) heal and could reopen as microfissures whenever the damaged skin comes under stress (say, during intimacy).

In addition, it can cause scar tissue to form, causing pathological phimosis. If a foreskin is retractable, then becomes nonretractable due to phimosis, it is impossible to clean under the foreskin. The secretions and smegma build up and can lead to infection.

Estelle, with two exceptions, I just don't believe these recurrent infections really exist.

The two exceptions are men who are diabetics who would also have a host of other health problems and the partners of women who are carriers of infectious agents are are not treated at the same time as the men. They keep passing the infection to the man. I suspect that all of the other reports of recurrent infections are just the same infection that is not properly treated due to incompetent medical care or the bias against the natural and whole male in out society and medical profession.

I do believe that forcibly retracting an infant or child can lead to infections and the infections will be recurrent as long as the forcible retractions and cleaning continue but I also believe the child will eventually outgrow this. Now, if he has an infection that has not been properly treated, he will continue to have recurrent bouts with this same infection, even into adulthood.

This brings up another issue. Men who restore often initially report an odor that rapidly builds during the day but eventually, the preputial space is colonized with beneficial bacteria that mostly negates the odor. I can tell you from personal experience that if the man goes overboard with hygiene in the preputial space, those beneficial colonizations will never happen and the odor remains. Just chalk it up to American's obsession with hygiene!
