What 12 year old thinks that is a good idea?

To SJane01's son if you read this- WHY on earth would you let anyone near your penis with a knife? What if something goes wrong?

I think it was up in the air as to (and excuse my crude terminology, as i can't remember the correct terms...) if the child will have the frenulum removed or just "sliced up".....

I think it's pretty much the consensus that the frenulum is the most sensitive part of the intact penis. I was myself wondering how would it affect the sensitivity frenelum if it had these cuts in it in this manner? And Past_VNE I think you just pretty much answered that question. The nerves WILL INDEED be damaged, and the sensitivity to this area WILL INDEED be affected.

And I agree.
I don't think this is a decision that the TWELVE YEAR OLD CHILD should make alone. It should not be left completely up to him.

I personally was wondering just how bad is the pain? Because from what I can tell, it only hurts him if he is trying to retract. Which, as Frank pointed out that retraction is not necessary. Being that he is 12 years old, he may not even know that it is not necessary to retract his foreskin to comfortably masturbate.

And I'm also wondering as another PP mentioned above, if what he is describing as "pain" is really just the normal natural intense sensitivity to this very sensitive area?

I think having the surgery right now is a big mistake. I also think that the whole puberty and growing process is being greatly rushed. But then that is just my own humble opinion.

ITA this is really rushing the child, I'm wondering what is the rush for him to go through puberty? My brother in law is JUST NOW really entering puberty, and he's 17. boys AND girls alike have "late bloomers"

All I can think to add, as i read this thread is that; if this 12 y.o. is anything like all the other 12 y.o.s I know...

In a few years will be asking, why did you let me do this?

I asked my mom the same question about a decision I should NOT have been asked to make when I was 12. Her answer "well you were so upset..."

I second getting the advice of a Naturopath. Since both doctors wanted to perform radical amputaions at the mention of these troubles, I worry about their judgement.

SJane, I have one more resource for you. This is a site that deals exclusively with problems such as your son is having:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/244184/

You can post your story there. One of the site owners, Paul B., is a doctor and is very knowledgeable of penis and reproductive issues. I wish you and your son well with your decision.

SJane01--I pm'd you before about your son. I'm sorry things have gotten so crazy so fast. I really hoped that more education on the subject would help your son. Good luck and I truly hope you all make the decision to wait until he has gone through puberty; if not, I truly hope that everything works out for the best for your son. I know that you are trying to follow what you hope is the best advice of a doctor, but as many of us have discovered, when it comes to penises, doctors don't always know much.

G-d bless....
