I am mostly a lurker but wanted to post about our sweet arrival. Hope no one minds.
He was born at home at 10:47 am on 3/4/06 after a short (for me!) intense 8-hour labor. He weighed a whopping and unexpected 12 lbs, 8 oz and measured about 23 inches! We're all still marveling at his sheer immensity. He's doing well so far, nursing like a champion and seems as generally laidback as he was in the womb (I guess he should have been doing a bit more cardio in there, eh?).
We do have one major concern: yesterday I was diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease which is generally not a big deal ... except in newborns whose mommas have an active infection at birth. So we are waiting to see if he picked up the virus and, if so, how severe it will be. It is occasionally fatal in newborns (causes myocarditis and organ failure) and it's put a bit of a damper on our babymoon.
