She's on my back! Finally!

Right now Kali is sleeping on my back! I am so excited! I have been wanting to put her on my back since day one but was surprising hesitant to do it. You'd think, being the babywearing geek that I am, that I would have had her up there long ago. Well, she is getting huge, and it finally felt FINE to do it. So I did it. HOORAY! I am using my Ergo carrier, which is easy for me since I used it so much with DS. The head support is even supporting her head.

Anyway, she feels great back there and I feel so free. It's 60 degrees here today so maybe I will venture outside with the two of them? Wouldn't that be brave?

Yeah for you!!!!!!!!!! I love a baby on my back...better than on my front and better than screaming her head off in a swing/bouncy/whatever contraption we spent money on that doesn't work! We live in Mississippi, so it's basically always warm here, so no advice about going outside...we go outside practically every day of the year Of course, one day a few weeks ago we had a tiny snow flurry and there we were, all of us outside, installing a new trellis on the front of the house! Ivy was in the sling, perfectly warm and happy, Bridget was "helping" dh with the trellis, and I was trying to decide if I should feel guilty that we were outside in the snow doing yard work

So jealous! I've tried once and didn't get it right...I'm thinking I'll try again this week!

I want to do this too but question my dexterity. I'm still looking for a carrier/hold she'll tolerate.

Awesome! I guess she has pretty good head control then? I love back carries and have been itching to try one with my MT, but Moira's still so wobbly.

I felt really confident doing it with my Ergo because I have done it so many times with DS. It was like nothing getting her up there. Doing it with any other carrier would be a whole other story. Actually, I have swung her around to my back in the sling when she is asleep, but only for a few minutes at a time.

BUT, now I have an update - we just got the tummy2tummy dvd. OMG it is so awesome. I think I will have to learn all the methods. Here's my post in the babywearing forum...http://www.mothering.com/discussions...03#post4724703

i would be lost without opal on my back! i think i also find it a bit easier because it is no tny first time.

a few tips:

practice with a spotter till you feel confinent.
when you do but need assurance, check in the mirror.
i hear a lot of "my baby hates it" try smaller intervals and work up...sometimes they need to get used to the feeling too.

it is funny this time for me because my last three babes were perty chunky by 2 months (usually when i get them on my back) but opal is a peanut and she looks really ridiculas back there! i get comments all the time. she is over 3 months now and weighs in at 11 1/2 lbs
sometimes i still put her in my ellaroo because i miss her there .

I got the dvd as a gift for my mw. I'm seriously thinking of opening it before I give it to her or getting my own copy!

I got Luka on my back in my brand new mei tai last night! I was so proud, I even took pictures of myself. I've slung him on my back a couple times but he's still so little that makes me nervous- he feels so secure in the mei tai. I even got to eat, while home alone!
