Naps and ds going to bed at 7pm

So what do you all do when your child naps and goes to bed much earlier then you do? Do you always sleep when they do, so they stay asleep or do you lay down beside until they are asleep then get up or do they sleep in a temp bed near you (living room?) until you go to bed or do you wear them in a sling until you both go to bed?

Ds has his naps in the livingroom in the basinette (he's 8 weeks)
When he falls asleep at 7pm he is in our bed and either dh or I am beside him, then we sneak out. But he wakes up sometimes 30 mins later, cause we aren't there. But if we put him to bed when we go, (midnight) he doesn't sleep very well either. Plus he will out grow the bassinette soon.
any thoughts?

He may wake whether you're there or not - mine does. He is 4 months now and I go to bed with him at 7:30pm but sometimes it's 9:00 before he's really asleep for any stretch of time. He's just restless and has a hard time settling down even with me beside him. Same for naps - he wakes frequently whether I'm there or not. Hopefully he will outgrow it. Right now I need the sleep so I stay in bed with him - it won't last forever, at least that's what I tell myself!

When my dd was younger, she took a "nap" around 7pm, and then woke 30-45 minutes later and we all went to bed around 11pm. Some newborns have very short sleep cycles, but outgrow that. Maybe for the time being you could keep baby with you for that evening nap and then go to bed later?
dd usually napped with dh, so I took the opportunity to nap myself or take a shower or whatever.

About the time dd was your son's age, I started putting her to bed about 6:30 in our bed without us. We always swaddled her and still do, which helps her sleep. SOmetimes she wakes up after 45 minutes, but in the last few weeks she started sleeping from 6:30 to 10:30 or 11 without waking. Now I go to bed about 8:30.

When she was that young, I'd do her naps (swaddled) in our bed, but started transitioning her to her own bed for naps just so I could get her used to her own room and so I could get to our room during the day. I didn't "force" anything. Now she takes all her naps in her bed and as of last night sleeps on a crib mattress next to our mattress, both of which are on the floor.

For naps I bounce her to sleep in her Amby bed, but for nightime I lie down next to her and cuddle her till she falls asleep. When she was 8 weeks I'd nap with her sometimes cuz it usually meant a longer nap. Now if I want to lie down during her nap I just lie on the couch.

I usually lay with Ally when she naps and goes to bed at night. We've set up our bedroom to support it--we have a small TV that I can watch or I read; at night, often I bring the laptop in and work or visit pages like this.
