Do you like serged dipes as much?

Maybe I'm insane...but I really prefer the "look" of T & T. Of course, I didn't discover this until DH surprised me with a new serger! The edges just look messy to me, and they don't feel as soft as just the nice finished edges of fabric. I do like the wings better serged than turned and topstitched, but that's just when I get them done correctly, which isn't every time yet. And it does go a bit faster, although often I didn't topstitch anything except the elastic, so it's not a ton faster than just sewing the layers together and turning it right side out.

Any suggestions? I just ordered some wooly nylon in varigated pastels, will that make it cuter and make me like it better? At least they'll be soft...

It depends on the diaper, some I prefer T&T and some I prefer serged. Sometimes serging is such a time saver and other times it's a bigger PITA for me.
I kinda felt the same way after I got my serger...I wasn't *in love* with serged diapers so I didn't take a lot of time to practice. I mainly used it in sewing (concealed seams) and for soakers. Now that I have the VB fitted pattern I serge my diapers a lot more, I think the serging looks nice with that pattern. I really do think the cute varigated wooly nylon makes a difference too, it's so soft and cute.

You can still T&t them. I think FB's are made this way. Just serge the edges leaving an opeing to T&T. I wrecked a wing yesterday on my 2nd diaper made it was a horrible disaster, somehow I managed to save it. I bought varigated thread on sale at Hancocks and just love the way it looks on the diapers. It looks a lot better than the solids I was using to practice serging with. Wooly nylons oh it looks yummy! I have the VB fitted pattern and it seems easy to serge for me, but again I have only made 2 diapers. Quite slow around here making stuff.

I like T&T diapers better. They fit under covers better and they don't rub Ryan's legs or belly.

If I had a serger (which I don't yet) I'd probably only use it for doing my soakers, doublers, and wipes. I don't like the look of diapers with the serging as the finished edge.

nak

i mostly want a serger for doublers, stuffers, and wipes. really. those are things that i just can't stand to be t&t. i just don't think it looks as good.

but then it seems so silly to get a serger just for that! so maybe i could hire out one of you sergin' mamas and send some of my yummy velour to make wipes out of!! (ooh.. and i'd send enough to make yourself some as well!)!

I like the look of both. For me the serger does make it faster and it's just more fun. A serger is definitely needed for doublers, soakers, wipes, etc. They are SO much quicker and easier! Even if I T&T some diapers, I will use the serger while the diaper is inside out, it's just that much quicker than my sewing machine.

I like the look of T&T but I like the drying time of serged. I find that my T&T diapers stayed damp around the edges where the layers are doubled where a serged diaper would already be dry. Pockets made of PUL and microfleece are fine, they dry so fast anyway. But I don't like big ruffles on serged diapers.

There are some wahm diapers that are T&T through the legs and serged on the wings, I think those look nice and are a good compromise.

I like both! I love the look of fitteds done in both styles and I love using Woolly Nylon and that the thread becomes part of the fashion of the diaper. Lately though all I have been sewing has been pockets LOL and those are all T&T though.

I love the look of T&T and wouldn't serge them if I had a serger.

Okay, odd man out - I like the serged look. I like having that coordinating color. Plus, you can use a cute print outer adn then a hidden layer of PUL, so have lots of cute diapers.

Of course, I have a little girl so the ruffly edges are a bonus to us

All right, now how am I going to wait for my wooly nylon thread??? I'm really hoping it's super cute--I got the varigated pastel. Right now I'm using white thread in the needles and either white or turquoise in the loopers. If I love the wooly nylon, I'll buy more, but I can't find it IRL, I have to buy it from OSDS and pay shipping. Ugh. They aren't bad on shipping at all, I just hate paying it at all!

Tonight I'm going to try to T and T a serged dipe and see what I think. I may love it, and since I use flannel a lot it will be nice to not have fraying that I can't see.

I'm pretty sure you can get wooly nylon at Joann's. I know you can get Maxi Lock there, b/c that's where I bought mine. Diaper fabric shipping costs are killing me! It should be considered like books and shipping price should be minimized in my opinion!
