The u/s is used differently in these two instances. For firming up face skin, they would have a continuous beam going, which the purpose of that is to heat up tissue. For baby images, they have it pulsate so that tissue heating doesn't occur very quickly at all, and they move it around alot, again, to avoid tissue heating.

And remember that Doppler is actually worse than the imaging u/s.

I've decided to go with the regular 2 u/s's my OB does - one will be at 8 weeks (actually for me it's 7 weeks... the u/s will firm up the dates though... lol), and the other will be 20 weeks. I've read all the research, and I agree that it's not good to get 10 u/s's for no medical reason during pregnancy, but I don't think 2 is such a big deal, and they *can* spot things that might be important to know. So for me, I think the benefits outweigh the risks. But I won't be getting an extra 4D ultrasound just to get pictures of my baby.

Yeah, I should have clarified. The 4D was part of the whole u/s. I didn't go back for extras, and they just do it all as one session.

When I did my first u/s research. Mothering had an article that I found very interesting.

I can find that issue for you.

i had a subchorionic tear with my first pregnancy and, as a result, had several ultrasounds (probably 5 or so) to monitor things throughout the course of my pgnancy.
hopefully everything will go well with this pgnancy and i will just have the one u/s around 18-20 wks.

Oh, I wasn't referring to your 4D u/s. Sorry if you thought I was talking about your experience with that. I was actually thinking about a friend of mine who paid $100 to get a separate 4D u/s just to get pictures of the baby - it wasn't medically necessary, and it was in addition to the regular u/s's and not done at the same time as the others. Totally separate trip.

Again, I apologize if you thought I was referring to your post about 4D - I really wasn't.
