Hello,
I've lurked her a lot and now I am saying hi. I have a one year old dd and I want to raise her with GD. However, coming from a family where physical and verbal abuse is/was rife I often stumble. As a child my mother spanked, pulled hair, threatened to put us in an orphanage, blah, blah. I so desparatly want to raise my dd differently but it is a challenge everyday. I am reading a lot and practising being mindful.

Welcome to Gentle Discipline! Sadly, many of us understand all too well the environment in which you grew up. So good to see you here, and thanks for the intro!

Welcome!

You can do it and lots of us can relate - many came from similar backgrounds

I grew up going hearing that I was gonna go to the home for little wanderers. We were locked in our rooms and hit...and more. DH's dad yelled a lot, so DH is a firm believer in firm tones etc.:

Today Aidan 10m was exploring the kitchen...we were in there and he was trying to get into the cat food tub which he knocked over, and a few other things. Well dh said NO! I told him that he should just redirect him and put him back to his toys. DH tried to tell ds he would lose play time WTF??? I gave him daggers and told him that he was wrong to tell him that.

So, here the struggle begins. I do find myself getting irritated with ds sometimes and I'm working on it, I know a lot of it has to do with how I was raised.

Do you guys know of any good gd books? thanks!
