Uh Oh... Poo problems... Maybe TMI

Well Tharen is 3 months now, and he has been having less frequent bm's for a while now (maybe a month). Lately he has been acting fussy and gassy alot and having a hard time passing his bm's. They are still liquidy and yellow, look like normal bfp's to me, but he definately is uncomfortable not passing them more often. He is on Zantac for his reflux, and since he started taking it his bm's have gotten more pasty, but still look like what you would think of as normal for a breastfed baby. Then today he had a massive explosive bm (he had a small one yesterday, but this is the first big one in a week). Well as I was changing him I noticed little darker almost greenish lumps that I have never seen before (he has had the yellow seedy and even white lumpy curds in his poo before, but nothing like this). Then in the past few hours he has been passing some really foul smelling gas. I have never smelt anything like it from an exclusively breastfed child. Usually his gas and bm's smell just kind of tangy, not really offensive at all. So could this be from the zantac, or is something going on? Anyone have any experience with this? Ds1 took pepcid for his reflux and it gave him awful constipation, and i guess I am a little worried that is what is happing now.

sorry i have no solutions or recommendations but just wanted to say i hope he feels better soon and you solve the issue.

I can chime in here!

dd was on zantac 2 weeks ago for reflux and we only gav it to her for 3 days. boy, it really changed the odor of her bm's.

we were really cautious about giving it to her and our rule was to only give it to her if her spit-up had an acidic smell. then she would get a day and night dose. after 3 days she stopped, but we have it o hand if it comes back...

don't know how bad the reflux is that you are dealing with, though...

hope he feels better!

my ds, who is also 3 months, has really smelly gas sometimes. like adult gas. stinky! tho his poops just smell like breastmilk poo. (he is ebf). he's my first, so i don't have anything to compare it to...

Tori has been on Zantac for over a month now (1 cc 2x daily) and I haven't noticed any difference in her poo. The only time she has green poo is when I accidentally consume dairy or carmelized soda, or chocolate or any of the stuff thats NOT in the elimination diet

Well I tried an experiment, and stopped giving him the zantac for a couple of days. As I had suspected his poos went back to normal. He poo'd twice yesterday and today, and no green stuff or foul smelling gas. Unfortunately today he started with the nasty spitups. Now I am not sure what to do. He definately needs the zantac for his reflux, but it is causing him so much intestinal pain. I just don't know how to help him.

Don't hurt yourself, Michele! You'll need that arse one day!

Drew isn't on any reflux meds, but his farts are oh-so smelly. I don't remember DS1 smelling this bad. My Aunt Marilyn always says things like, "Shoo-wee! Smells like constipated baby!" Now, thanks to Drew, I know EXACTLY what she means. :

Spinach in her poo?

That is what I asked myself one day. My dd had green stuff in her poo that looked like green spinach! I had to poke at it with a Q-tip to make sure! It wasn't, it was just some kind of goey green stuff. It only happened a couple of times, and then went away.

When she was going through her "not pooping for days and days" stage, boy did her gas smell! It was so bad that I didn't let anyone hold her, for their sake!

That is too bad about the reflux. Aren't there any other options besides Zantac? Some kind of natural solution? What if you keep your baby in a mostly upright position most of the time? My DD was having trouble for a while, and I would have her sleep on her side. I used baby bumpers to make sure that she wouldn't roll at all. Good luck!

Galen sometimes has super stinky farts too, but normal smelling poo...
