i made my own pattern, similar to the little beetle pull on, exceprt that i added cuffs, i think it is my favorite cover right now!

(i hope i did that right, i am new to flickr!)

on another pull on style (i used the triangle style) i just folded up some casings and threaded 1/4" elastic. the legs just needed a gentle gather- my ds is tall and skinny.

i have no clue how to knit. I am using a sweater and making my own pattern it is going to be pull up style and they will look kinda like underwear. that is where i am getting the idea for my pattern. What could i use to put around the leg holes that will be the only place that will have anything unsewen. can i use i think i have the bias seam tape that is the only thing i have that i think will work.

This pattern rocks and you can do exactly what you are asking for:

My grandmother made 2 cashmere shorts out of one sweater with this pattern. It is perfect because you can use the waistband of the sweater for your waistband, and the legbands for the legs if they are not too tight. She just cut some strips out of the sweater to make the legs since the ones on the sweater were a bit small. But it is the perfect cover. It is like a loose pair of shorts so that there is lots of air circulation and super soft and comfortable because no elastic. I did not even lanolize it and it is one thin layer, but because it is not tight it does not get damp even when the fitted pocket under it is soaked. I guess it just dries out quickly.

I think they really resemble the Little Beetles wool shorts and those are over $30. Plus you use a sewing machine, no serger. I have covers with snaps and I don't even use them anymore. I also have 2 fleece pair of shorts made with this pattern. It only takes maybe 30 minutes to cut and sew a pair of shorts. BTW, my ds is 32.5 inches, 21 pounds, and 15 months old and the pattern worked great as is. But I did have the crouch narrowed for the wool pairs since I like it to look more like shorts.

I love love love this free pattern!

eternalw, your covers are adorable and do resemble that pattern. They are my favorite covers too. So simple yet so comfortable.

How do these work under pants?

i just printed the pattern and measured- they are almost identical! i make mine with an extra long rise (like an aristocrat) so that they come up higher than the waistband of his pants. they are perfect with overalls, and good with pants that aren't too snug. otherwise we get compression wicking. not alot, but a little. i like his pants loose and rolled up anyway, like a size bigger than he usually wears. it just seems more comfy on his belly...

oh- i just finished up two more and one pair of pants! the pants may be too small- i'll have to try them on tomorrow. if anyone wants to see, i can take some pics in the morning!

I'm definitely going to have to try these. I made some longies, but I like for him to be able to wear regular pants when we are out and about.

ACtually I haven't tried them under clothes, but just use them as the clothes. They make adorable shorts.
