New Skills Learned

I am curious to see how the other little ones are doing. I don't know many other babies, so I dont' know when they do what. Here are some things that Ranjana has just learned. What is your baby up to in his/her spare time?

She has learned to kick, and gets so excited when she does it!
She has learned to fold herself in half to reach her toes, but alas, can't get back up again!

She can grab objects hanging from her mobile as it rotates.

She talks, but I can't tell if she is trying to say something, or just making noises. Sometimes it seems like she is saying that she is hungry, but I am not sure.

She recently starting grabbing her burping blanket when I hold it up to her. Not just grabbing it, but moving it around.


It seems like time has stood still, but has raced by at the same time. I remember so fondly of how she felt when she was first born, so small and open to the world. Now she is starting to be more aware of herself and her environment. Sometimes I am so excited for her, but sometimes I long to visit that first week again.

Aveena is two and a bit months and she's doing different stuff. She can roll from her front to her back (NOT happy about this - enjoyed it when I could just leave her on the floor : ) 'chats' a lot, and loves kicking. She brings things to her mouth to suck on, but doesn't reach out for them yet.

Oh, and she's good at crying and smiling and feeding

no rolling here, yet. her big thing is smiling her butt off. LOL that's her best skill, imo. especially since she was sooooooooooooooooooooooo cranky until about 2wks ago.

she grabs things but doesn't pull them toward her mouth...she laughs a hearty guffaw when tickled in her armpit.

other than that, not much. LOL

Greyson is 9 weeks old (2 months and 1 week?), and he rolls from tummy to back. He swats and grabs at the toys on his playmat thingie. He coos and 'talks' to us. He loves to rub my arm for some reason. He also loves to kick, kick, kick. He smiles more than he cries. One thing I love about him is, even as a boy, he doesn't pee on me when I change his diaper. Not once. Now I think that's a skill. lol
He's so little though, he's still very newborn looking.

Samara is 12 weeks old. She also LOVES to kick while lying on her back. It looks like she's running in place. And she has such a serious look on her face, like she's trying to actually get somewhere.

We don't have a play gym or a mobile, so no trying to grab at objects yet. But she does hold on to her burp cloth and wave it around.

She is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CLOSE to rolling from back to tummy. She ALMOST did it last night. Me and dh were on the floor, cheering her on. Her arm was pinned and in the way, so we cheated and moved it for her, then she rolled.

She is cooing and trying to talk. She can say "hi". I say hi to her really slowly and exagerated, and she'll try to repeat it. Sometimes she does. I think it is so adorable when she concentrates on what she's trying to "say". She'll shape her tiny little mouth into a "O", or stick her tongue out and make an "L" sound.

Tharen is just over three months. He can roll over from font to back and back to front. He can kick his legs and push with them against my hands. He has been holding his head up well since birth, but now he is trying to sit up. He almost can if he props himself with his hands. He can grab his paci and pull it out of his mouth. He aquired a lovey (a cloth wipe) and can whip it around and stuff it in his mouth. He smiles like crazy and will laugh any time you smile at him. He can carry on a cooing conversation, and imitates vowel sounds. If you say "I love you" he makes sounds back that sound very similar. He can grab big brothers hair and make an attempt to stuff it in his mouth. THat is his absolute favorite activity.

Luka stuffs anything within reach in his mouth. He smiles and talks all the time. He pushes up on his elbows and sometimes hands when he's lying on his belly. He rolled from back to front once. Mostly he's just gotten great at being a cutie!

m is 11.5 weeks.
he has learned to roll from his belly to his back, but has refused to do it for the past two days. he somehow got from his back to his belly while sleeping last night, but i think it was the slope of the bed. this morning, while grabbing a wipe, he got about three-quarters of the way from his back to his belly.
he can push himself up on his hands while lying on his belly. he's had great head control and neck strength since birth, but this is really amazing.
he smiles a lot. huge, great grins.
he makes a vareity of noises. he seems very impressed by this.
he has discovered how to get his hands to his mouth, jam them in and suck on them noisely.
he punches the giraffe rattles on his bouncy chair. he always considers them for a time with his fists cocked, like a boxer.

Simon is doing lots of "talking" - he loves to imitate sounds and facial gestures. He doesn't like being on his belly very much, so hasn't done any rolling yet. He loves to hold onto blankets and soft toys (and my hair), and shove things into his mouth. He often sucks loudly on his fists; hopefully he'll find his thumb soon! One of his favorite games is to be pulled up to a sitting position. Simon is also doing a lot of squealing and kicking when he's excited - it's sooo cute!

Kali is just getting to be such a cute calm chubby chubster I simply can't stand it!

She loves to talk to people and to her doll. She looks you right in the eye and makes really specific sounds. When she pees in her potty or does a poo, I always get excited and tell her she is a "Good Girl" and I swear she tries to say that. It comes out kind of like "goo guhh". She also tries to say "hi" and she gurgles.

I have a large mobile from the art museum that is hung above her bassinet, and I tie her arm or leg to it with a long piece of yarn. She kicks like crazy and makes her bassinet rock and makes the mobile swing around. She gets really excited about that.

The thing I'm most pleased about though is the way she communicates with me to tell me when she needs to pee and poo and then waits until she's on the potty to do it, even when we are out and about. She gets really angry if we don't listen to her and she has to pee in her diaper! Usually she makes a kind of "ehnt" sound to get our attention, or if I am already engaged with her, she gives me this deep look in the eyes and may also add the
"goo guhh" sound.

And oh yes - she learned to roll over a few days ago. She gets kind of mad about this though as she doesn't completely have it down.
