Granted. But I have a seriously hard time believe that this family would say in an interview that the Bible told them to do something, instructed them in HOW to do it, but they said "hey, its not for us."

You're right. He was elected as a state rep from 1999-2001, just failed at a higher office bid (U.S. Senator) against Hutchison.

They believe the Bible says you should spank, and they are Bible-believing Christians. I believe it would be a safe guess to say they spank. Additionally, they espouse the beliefs of Ezzo and Gothard, who also tell parents to spank.

They don't say they had sex either, but I can safely assume from the evidence that they do.

I am a christian and have seen some use the bible as an advocate of spanking and maybe, if viewed through their eyes it does advocate it, but I do not and will not spank.Just because one believes that the bible states something doesn't mean that they also do it.

And FYI - the Duggers do talk about sex - even commenting how they will enjoy getting romantic in their new bedroom.

Why would they mention the fact that they believe the bible tells you to spank and also tells you how to do it if they didn't do it? That's just common sense.

now why would you attack someone based on their hairstyle or clothes or religion? Isnt part of being an mdc'er is being accepting of other people's beliefs or choices? (putting the discipline issues aside).

Also, does this family actually identify as quiverful?

I had understood quiverful to accept the number of children G-d sent them, but wouldn't premature weaning be "messing" that up?

I assumed they were not quiverful, but there were some references in the thread so I just hoped for clarifcation.

Because when they were shown their new room Mr. Duggar joked around about making #17. And dh looked at me like this

Dh has watched the shows with me...and all he will say is "weeeiirrrd" We used to be Independent Fundamentalist Baptists...and he used to pray that I would never dress like the women in our church. When we met I was very into fashion...and it was just a weird thing going there. Watching the show is like stepping back a decade for us.

In all seriousness... we would love a large family...we have 3 bio children now. But, I have gotten PPD after each child...and its worse with each one...after #3, it was hell. So, we are starting the adoption process in 2008 and see what happens. I really like watching the Duggar show...because their house is SOOO organized....and mine isnt. I would like to be organized.
