Iron on Vinyl??

So I found a couple rolls of iron on, machine washabe, and sewable vinyl....and my mind is thinking...humm I wonder if this could work for dipe covers, I could use any fabric I want!!! Muwahahaahaa...but I better run it by the experts first.

So what do you all think? Should I use it? I dont have a babe to try it on until June, but I guess I could throw them into the wash severl dozen times before then to test their durability. Ooh the fabrics I could use I am itching to go to the fabric store, damn and DH got paid yesterday too...*evil chuckle*

I need help...see what you all did to me this CD fever! I am addicted to CD and the Forums. I need intervention..well I am not hurting anyone.

This came up not too long ago, I emailed the company that makes iron-on vinyl and asked if it had been tested for prolonged skin contact or use in clothing. When I finally got a response back from the company, I couldn't find the thread to post the info to!
Anyway, they said it had never been tested for that and shouldn't be used in that manner, in addition they recommended only hand washing.

the only concern would be it's not breathable

I'm trying to find that stuff! I can find it online, but I'd rather not pay shipping. I'm not going to try it on diaper covers (I am with the pp on the breathable issue) but I'm going to try it for a diaper bag!

Try a quilting shop. My local Joanns didn't carry it, but a small local independent quilting shop did. I got some to make purses/tote bags out of - have some really cute vintage style fabric to use and can't wait to try it. The woman at the quilting store said it is real easy to use and she showed me some VERY cute bags she'd made with it.
Good luck!

When I first learned about pul, I found the iron-on stuff at Joanns, but it's not breathable or stretchy. I think its probably a good idea for wet bags and the like. If its recommended hand wash only, you can probably machine wash and hang dry and be fine!

vinyl is really toxic, and I would avoid it in any applications, but especially baby stuff.
