wipes & doublers

i was wondering what would be the best way to make wipes. I don't have a serger only a sewing machine. All materials would be recycled or from walmart so limited on materials. I am wanting to make them so they would hold up to the washing. I made some single layer and zigzaged close to the edge not over and they are crap. What do you think would hold up better 2 layers t&t or 2 layers zigzaged over edge or 1 layer zigzagged.
And how do you without the serger make your doublers and how many layers. What shape do you use and is there a free pattern for this anywhere i know they are easy but i alway need something to look at

For the wipes I do 2 layers, whether T&T or zigzagged edges. I like both and they seem to hold up the same. My favorite wipes are flannel on one side and cut up soft towel or cotton terry on the other. Thick enought to wipe up everything and they look really nice!

I really like 2 layers, velour & flannel. I have T&T but now I prefer a straight stich plus a small zig-zag over the edge. I pin the layers, then do the straight stich, then I trim along the line of stitching so that I have an even edge (usually 1/8" or so), then do the zig-zag. HTH!

does anyone have anything to help me with doublers?

Until I got my serger, I made my doublers rectangular. My doubler pattern came with my free mamabird pattern, I just added a seam allowance. I cut out two rectangles of flannel, and one or two slightly smaller rectangles of microfiber. I sewed the flannel layers right sides together like a pillowcase--on three sides. Turned it right side out, slid the microfiber inside the cover, and sewed the end closed. Then topstitch.

I T&T my 2 layer flannel wipes. I use mostly recycled baby blankets, or clearance flannel from the fabric store. I have some (maybe 1/3 of my wipes) that are 1 side flannel, 1 side soft old towel. These are great at getting poopies off, so I usually use 1 of those, followed by the flannel to finish up.

Ooohh, I also had a pair of soft 100% cotton fine wale corduroy pants that I made somewipes out of. (the other side flannel) Very nice!

I wipes! I use them a lot. For everything.
