Hidden pul AIO?

I cannot remember, and I didn't want to hijack the other thread.

If I am serging instead of T and T'ing, can I do hidden PUL without it wicking? I can use polyester for the outer if I have to, but I'd rather use some of my cute cotton prints if I can get away with it. I'm thinking it would wick though...I can't picture a way to get it to work.

Any ideas? Other than FOE...I'm probably going to end up doing that anyway, but I'd like some other options!

I have a wahm aio (baby soft wraps maybe?) that has cotton outer, hidden pul, and I think some kind of micro inner and is serged. It has never wicked for me, but I haven't tried to make anything like it. It doesn have a fleece casing on the legs, maybe that helps. I say go for it!

One of my favorite diapers is a serged, outer cotton print, hidden pul, velour innner diaper (it's a Baby Bloomrs.) I used it a lot b/c it's so cute, but also, I found it to really hold up well when we went out. I'm not sure it's ever wicked on me.

I think that as long as you don't try to go five hours in the diaper, you'll be fine. And make sure the pul goes all the way out to the edge, don't chintz on it. I'm actually going to attempt one today/tomorrow (I have St. Patrick's Day fabric that I wanted to make a diaper out of!)

Oh, and you can download a free pattern for a serged diaper from Ottobre - it's above in the diaper patterns sticky-thread thing. The diapers run very big fyi, so the one that fits like 12-18 months actually fit my 2 1/2 year old with room to spare.

Yes, you can use cotton outter, PUL inner, w/microfleece-type inner and serge the edges.

Tips:
1) DO face the shiny side of the PUL towards the inside of the diaper (fleece side)
2) DON'T sew your elastic through all layers! I'm not sure how you do your elastic. I sew the elastic to the print layer only, then layer the PUL on top of the print (shiny side up), and the fleece on top of the PUL and serge.
3) DON'T use cotton (or other wickable - is that a word?) thread!

To add to PP... your inner lining needs to be 100% polyester - no cotton, or it could easily wick onto clothes where the leg ruffles touch baby. I would use microfleece or suedecloth or some other fabric like that. I only use velour as an inner for serged FITTEDS.

Cotton print works fine on serged diapers. Lots of WAHMs make them that way (eg, LHC).

Okay, I just pulled the Baby Bloomr and the LHC serged diapers I have. Looks like the elastic is sewn onto the outer print and the pul parts, but not the inner layer.

But I swear, the inner layer of my Baby Bloomrs is velour, and it's the same velour that tops the snap in insert. Never had any leaks though. The LHC diapers are all lined in fleece. I think I'll use my suedecloth for the inner layer (since I want white on the inside anyway.)

Thank you thank you thank you!!! I'm so glad I asked for advice, if I had tried it on my own I don't know if I would have done the elastic correctly (I do usually sew it to all the layers for a fitted), and I don't know if I would have used poly for the inner. I did figure that poly thread was the way to go! I have microfleece and suedecloth, so I'll just use one of those, a layer of PUL, and a cute layer

I can't wait to get home and play!
