Cashmere and Lanolin?

I found another 100% cashmere sweater at the thrift store yesterday, and this time I want to make it into covers instead of keeping it for myself! But I was just wondering, do you lanolize cashmere the same as wool? I searched on google but couldn't find any answers.

I think that most people do. Lanolin isn't natural for cashmere (goat hair) like it is for wool 'cause the goats don't make it, but from what I understand it works just as well on cashmere and cashmere/wool blends.

I lanolize our cashmere pants.

Oh man! I had a cashmere butt sweater that I put too much Lanolin on...

Now if only I could figure out how to get the excess off!

If it is really a lot of extra lanolin, then you can wash it in a gentle detergent like baby shampoo. If the problem seems to be more that the lanolin is sitting on top of the fibers and is sticky in spots, try putting the soaker in a warm place like the top of the dryer while you are drying laundry, it will help melt the lanolin and allow the cashmere to absorb it better.

I had a wool diaper cover that I lanolinized with TOO much (think 1/2 a tube of Lansinoh). The only thing that worked was to soak the whole thing in diluted Dawn dish soap in warm water for a long time, a few different times, completely remove the lanolin, and eventually relanolinize with a regular amount!

hmmm... I think I will try washing it with the baby soap... I don't think there is so much that I will have to soak it or anything. And it is just way to much everywhere... So probably the baby soap will work the best!
