This will be my third birth. With my first I didn't take any birth class or really look into it at all. I ended up with pitocin induction at 42 weeks, luckily she was born healthy 30 hours later, with no pain meds. The second time I took Bradley classes and was very happy with all the information I learned. My dd #2 was born after 20 hrs and no pain meds! This time I am looking into hypnobirthing as I would love to have a shorter and less painful labor. I am also trying RRL tea. Has anyone tried hypnobirthing and if so what was your experience?

Did you take Bradley with Karen or Shanna? I did Bradley with Robert's birth (Karen was my instructor) and LOVED it.
I've heard good things about hypnobirthing, but I haven't tried it myself.

I took it with Shanna. She was sooo nice. I looked forward to our class every week. I loved all the information about interventions and it really helped with my labor. Did you have good luck with the relaxation used in the Bradley method?

Actually, it worked really well for us. Some of the relaxation techniques didn't work for us because we joked about them so much while taking the class and practicing, but for the most part, it was great. I seriously had no problem coping with labor until about 2.5 hours into pushing (at which point I never wanted drugs... I thought a c-section sounded like heaven, though
) But I was able to cope well from 4 am until almost 9 pm with just what we had learned in the class.
A lot of it had to do with a super-supportive husband and wonderful nurse. The nurse would stop talking when she saw I was going into a contraction by my expressions and wait until I said it was okay to continue talking or whatever. My ideal birth would be to have that specific nurse again helping with my labor, but I think that might be wishful thinking (but I will ask if she's there - no question!).

I plan on using hypobirthing as well. I know some woman who have used it and it worked well for them. I believe your supposed to start taking the classes at 28 weeks so you can continue practicing the methods until your due date.

I actually did Hypnobabies which is essentially a home study version of hypnobirthing & I think one of the main differences is that you can do it anywhere & keep your eyes open - I believe hypnobirth uses closed eyes. I do know that there are specialists in many areas to assist you with a hypnobirth. The scripts & relaxation techniques are also different.
I must say I had a wonderful & beautiful all natural water birth. So I guess to that extent it worked great. My water broke & my son arrived 36 hours later - so it definitely didn't help my body progress!!
I was able to relax between my contractions - it often felt like I took a 30 min nap in between!! That was great. I did feel a little lost at what to do during my contractions though & felt a little unprepared - but in the end I must say my birthing experience was amazing & I was very fortunate.
Unfortunately I will not be able to do a water birth this time as no one here does them so I am a bit nervous. I do want a natural birth but am not sure what techniques I will be using this go around. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

i used hypnobirthing with my daughter's birth. even though i had complications (HELLP Syndrome), had to be induced using Pit, was on mag sulfate to prevent seizures and restricted to laying in bed on my left side, the relaxation techniques i learned in HB class helped me a LOT! my dd never had any signs of stress (despite what my body went through) and i was able to have a vaginal birth. obviously, my labor and birth weren't ideal because of the complications i developed, but i think HB helped me stay calm and focused and as relaxed as i could in a very stressful situation. i highly recommend it.
i have several friends who've also taken HB classes and have had amazing births.
