help me with dd's birthday present

dd is turning 2 in a few weeks and i want to make her some things. she LOVES baby dolls and stuffed animals so i thought that a doll sling, doll diapers, and a little tote bag would be nice.

I origianlly thought of buying a toy sling but i think it will be nicer if i make it with a fabric i know she'll love. anyway, the only link i found with instructions was complicated and the shape was kinda weird. i can use regular sling instructions but have no clue what dimensions to make it. she weighs 27 pounds so it needs to be small.

last night i whipped up a pouch out of leftover material from when i made my pouch and she loved it! i didnt finish the edges or anything as it was just for practice but i am wondering if maybe i should just make another pouch instead of a ring sling (although i already bought the rings). i do like the adjustablilty of a ring sling....

also, i want to make a small tote bag for her. what material should i use and what size sounds good for a 2 year old?

A pouch seems like it might be easier for a 2 year old to manage on her own. Otherwise you might have to put it on her whenever she wants to use it. For measurments, I would just measure from her right shoulder to her left waist (or vice versa) and double it. That should give you a pretty accurate measure of how long it needs to be. You can probably just eye the width. IHTH

I agree that a pouch would be easier for a 2 year old. My dd has a RS and I am forever adjusting it for her.

I have a RS for my 2 y/o and she doesn't like to have it on her. On the other hand, she *loves* it when I fashion a sling for her babies (and mine, of course) out of a playsilk. So my vote would be for a pouch as well. Save the rings for later

I would use a canvas or bottom-weight fabric for the tote - it's not going to be too big, just for her to carry, right?

I am getting a diaper for my DD's "baby" but am also going to sew a simple "underwear" for the baby too as we get into the age where DD will be potty learning I find it is easier sometimes to get DD enthusiastic about activities if her baby can also participate (manipulative? yes. Will I stop anytime soon? I doubt it )

HTH!
