I have had some really good weeks now of a problem free baby, and the most recent twist was interesting.
1) We got the Zantac prescription and only administered it when we really had to. For us, that was when her spit up really smelled acidic like adult vomit or when she freaked on her back a few times.
2) we stuck a big book under her changing table pad to prop it up a little
3) she always slept next to me on her left side anyways, so she wasn't bothered in the night.
4)this week I moved to to a moses basket cradle next to me for other reasons that made me intially very sad because I missed her. I didn't gain any sleep because I feel like I still watch her all night. Anyway I fed her when she started rooting, usually twice a night and things were going well.
I would nurse her sitting up and not fall right back to sleep lke I usually do.
Then DH and I missed her and brought her back in bed one night at 3am, and she nursed, nursed, nursed as she usually did. Next morning, acid reflux returned. She spit up massive amounts of acid again. I realised that she overfeeds in bed and uses me as a pacifier. I am too sleepy to realize how long and often she was feeding, and she wasn't feeding elevated at all either.
Now I bring her back in bed at the 6 am feeding and snuggle her until she is ready to wake up and her belly is great again.
perhaps other mommies and babies with acid reflux were doing the same? I am not suggesting moving the baby out of bed as much as I am suggesting feeding upright and not as a soother through the night if the stomach can't take it.
