in need of sleep

Well, I can assume that the 3month growth spurt is over now, but why is Simon still waking up every 1-2hrs a night??? I'm sooo tired at this point. It's been two weeks and it seems that growth spurt really messed up the fairly decent sleep he was getting before. Up until then, 2-3 feedings a night was routine, now it's so much more.

As in the post about reflux, I'm wondering if the increased feeding has resulted in Simon being extraordinarily gassy. When he wakes in the night it's often accompanied by squirming and he seems uncomfortable. We try so hard to burp him after each feed but he doesn't always bring up the air that he swallows when he nurses sloppily. It's been really frustrating because when the burp doesn't come then we know he'll be up shortly due to the discomfort in his belly.

We decided to set up a sidecar crib to see if maybe not being so close to me (though he's only a foot or two away with the sidecar), would help him sleep longer. It doesn't seem to have helped yet.

I also have been trying to give him my pinky to suck on instead of nursing at each waking to see if he'll fall back to sleep and isn't truly hungry. This has worked a few times. He lets me know he's hungry when he spits my finger out, so I nurse then.

Naps are also short nowadays. In the sling he'll sleep maybe 1 - 1.5hrs at the most. But when I nurse him down in bed, he's usually up within 30-45min. He often wakes and is still tired, though, so I end up putting him in the sling anyway.

Anyone else noticing any changes in your dc's sleeping patterns? Is this just a phase (please say yes even if it's not ) .

You're doing all of those things I would have suggested already.

The squirming in their sleep is really getting to me. I am so perplexed. Have of me thinks it is a more olympic effort in rooting and then I also wonder if it's gas, because dd is farting in her sleep.

But the second I bring her back in bed with me from the bassinet, the squirming gets better.

I am getting no sleep either. These spurts will settle down soon I am sure...

yyyyyup. my champion sleeper is not so champion right now. she's been waking 1-2x a night (used to not wake at all until morning) and her naps are shorter (1-1.5hrs instead of 3hrs). it's still astronomically better than rowan was, so i'm not complaining too much...but it's been hard to get used to.

so it's not just my dd who's not napping at all ??????

(we're from the november 05 DDC but she was born end of november so they;'re about thesame age)
sorry poor spelling, both kids on me

well I guess I'm the opposite of you all, except for the napping of course. Mind you I don't think dd has hit her 3mth growth spurt yet so we'll see what happends after that. I can't imagine her naps getting any worse (30mins usually, and she's still tired but WON'T go back down - she's very adament about that). But night time is good. She actually slept for a 5 hr stretch last night.

Our nighttime sleep has gotten much worse lately. He used to go 7-8 hours, now I'm lucky if I get 4. Most nights it's the 1 1/2 to 2 hours you've all described. And it has been just since that horrible growth spurt.

His naps have always been virtually non-existant, so I've been very happy for the two 1/2 hour naps a day I've gotten lately. Some of them have been 45 min., even! So that's an improvement, I guess, but the nights are killing me.

We've been swaddling again, which has helped some. He's really grabbing at things now, and I think he keeps it up at night. We do a partial swaddle with his legs out because he's too long for our receiving blankets!

Our stomach issues have resurfaced, too, although the last few days have been better. His bowel movements are diminishing--he hasn't gone in at least 2 days. He doesn't deal well with those changes. I seem to have LOTS of milk lately, and I think that also makes him gassy.

I wonder what's up?
