Write a letter to Newsweek

What kind of crappy journalism is this?

"Bed sharing, after all, is common in the rest of the world, promotes (bad grammar!) family bonding and makes breast-feeding more convenient. But opponents - a vocal majority here in the States - CORRECTLY point out the potential for falls and suffocation, not to mention an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome if the mom smokes cigarettes, is tipsy or is even just extremely tired (and what new parent isn't?). There HAVEN'T BEEN ANY long-terms studies about the number of babies who die in beds versus cribs [...]" KAREN SPRINGEN

So there haven't been any long-term studies, yet the opponents are nonetheless correct??

"an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome if the mom:

*smokes cigarettes*, - weel there is an increased risk of sids regardless of where the baby sleeps.

*or is even just extremely tired (and what new parent isn't?)"* -hey one who shares sleep with thier newborn rather thangetting up a zillion times a night!!

I'm off to write a letter.

Do you have a link to the actual article or is this all there is to it?

Yeah, parenting had a quote this month something to the effect, "bedsharing increases the risk of smothering."

Ugh. Someone got me a gift subscription. Every month I open it to any random page, read one sentence, and fling the whole darn thing in the trash can.

It's in the "Tip Sheet" at the back. I got an actual magazine from my dh who just returned from the States. Oh, and it's the January 27 issue (pretty important info, sorry).
