I am so sorry. I am surprised your books say don't take it.

I needed to tkae a liquid antacid recently and the Dr. Sears books said it was fine.

all the babes with acid reflus even get zantac prescribed.

I am sure it would be fine, but then I am not a dr.

Hope you feel better!

Zantac is the one they usually recommend for pregnant women, IIRC. I can't see why it wouldn't be safe while nursing.

You can also try papaya enzyme.

I had (what we thought was) acid reflux when my son was 2 months old, and I was told to take Zantac (I was breastfeeding). I double checked it in Hale's at the time and it was safe to take while breastfeeding. Just know that it can take a couple days to fully kick in.

I once had a client who was already using zantac in her pregnancy and had to wait to see the doc to get the dose upped and in the mean time she used slippery elm bark. She said it worked amazingly. I used it as well in the last months of pregnancy although, her condition was worse than mine. It worked wonders. Maybe try that in the mean time. You should be able to get it at any health food store.

According to Susan Weed (pg 41 of Wise woman herbal for the childbearing year), mix a tsp of it with honey (another name she uses is ulmus fulva) and eat it.

if it's acid reflux... try a tsp of baking soda in 4 oz of water!!

it will make you burp a bit afterwards, but it is truly amazing!
