On bp meds and homebirthing?

Has anyone who is on bp meds(for high bp) had a homebirth?

I was put on meds a few months ago. We are TTC and I know I want another hb,but is that even possible? Do mw's take on high bp patients,or is that considered high risk/ob care?

I really don't want my last birthing experience to be in a hospital, but ofcourse I want any future little one (and me) to come out of it healthy.

I've had two clients with chronic hypertension and on meds that had beautiful homebirths. The great thing? Laboring and birthing in water LOWERS your bp.

I was turned down by the only MW in this area who could help me because I take medicine for high blood pressure. It depends on where you live I think because there are lots of other ladies who did get thier homebirths.
I have uneventful pregnancies and my last labor was so fast (50 minutes and the hospital was only 5 minutes away) that if I were to have another baby I would have to look into UA or move to an area that has a MW to help me becuase I would never make another hospital birth.

It definitely depends on the midwives in your area and if they have any legal stipulations as well.

I personally tend to have slightly elevated BP only during pg but I'm able to treat it with supplements... and waterbirth is AWESOME!

I'm currently on BP meds (31 wks.) and am still planning a homebirth with this baby. High BP, in the absence of other problems, is not a dealbreaker for my hb mw, nor for the backup OB I'm also seeing, but further complications (i.e. actually developing other signs of pre-eclampsia) are, fwiw.

I also think it's pretty individual by mw, since I interviewed several in my area and the only one even at all knowledgeable about high BP in pg was the one I chose; the others either wouldn't take me on as a client (I have a pretty colorful medical hx, although my past two births have been perfectly normal and healthy) or suggested things that were way out of line with what I thought would be a good idea.

I hope you can have the homebirth you're wishing for!

Kind regards,
Guin

There are other things you can do besides meds sometimes- my bp was borderline high- and it did GO very high with my son( first pg) I uped my protein- and took lots of remedies reccomended by midwife- some are on here.
I would go check with the midwives- it varies.... then maybe look into a natural way to lower your bp.
