What "type" of homeschooling do you do and why? - Page 2

Okay, I'm new to this what is Classical???

This may be a silly question but what would a Classical unschooling day/week look like??? We are excitedly beginning (officially) homeschooling our DS (61/2) this fall. He's been in Waldor KIndergarten for two years so his only exposure to the three R's has been his own fascination with how many ways he can make "7" with the fingers on his hands. - He was so ecstatic over his doscovery! and teaching himself the letters and how to make them and asking us to please spell everything.

So- We are looking into all the options. I am able to get the general idea of Unschooling but you've intrigued me with your description of "classical" as having beauty and elegance!!!!

Thanks,

Joyful(finally!)living

For right now we're mostly unschoolers, although not in the strict sense because I do ask them to do things. My daughter loves to read and is perfectly content to sit with a book for hours on end. I'll bring her a pile of books and she picks up whatever interests her. My son would absolutely not sit still for anything structured. So I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. Before I had kids I decided that I was going to treat them respectfully, and I realized that institutionalization isn't very respectful, and neither is forced education. If they want to get more formal or structured, we will, but it will be up to them.

Mostly classical (The Well Trained Mind as a base). I've been lightly hs'ing my 4.75 yr old dd for a year. I keep it light so and go with what she likes (which is a lot, she enjoys learning). We just moved into a great school system and she will start 1/2 day K in the fall. This K sounds great but if it falls short I have no problem pulling her. Until that happens, I'll be afterschooling her.
