Okay lol I need one
But seriously
are they hard to use?
I serge, I sew, I crochet... but I dunno why I think they must be difficult...

Buy new, used? What should I expect to pay for a used machine?
I have a multipurpose singer, an industrial straight stitch....

Alison
Who is so happy as the old industrial I almost sold for $80 bucks.... turned out when they guy came to test it out (stiches too short for repairing his sails for his boat...)
= sewed through drum roll....

10 layers of denim, 2 layers of leather and a woven strap all stacked up.....there is a sewing machine god! Its diaper time

It happens every time. I bought a sewing machine then traded it in for an Embroidery machine. No, they are not hard to use but I believe the classes that the dealers offer are needed and important and for that reason I would buy from a authorized dealer. New or Used. Hard to put a price on a machine. They really vary from a few hundred to a few thousand. It will depend on what you want. You can get a BN Brother's from Walmart for under $500 and some of the European and Babylock's will set you back a few thousand for used.

Good Luck!

Mine is really easy to use but then i paid for that. I guess some thing that is hard to learn is the tension so your bottom thread stays on the bottom, but my machine is a smarty and does this automatically. One feature that i love on my machine is that it has a separate motor for the bobbin so you don't have to un thread your machine to make a bobbin in the middle of a project. Mine also cuts all the threads inbetween jumps, which i think is great. I had no experience when DH bought my machine but i learned how to use it pretty fast - it came with online CDs, a binder with detailed instruction and i bought if from a great dealer. Mine is a little pricey though, up in the middle thousands It is a pfaff 2170.

OT~ Just curious as to where you bought your Pfaff. I had bought my Designer at a Pfaff dealer so I was just curious.

Thanks!!!! I have never heard of them. I bought from Pfaff on Granville. Corner of Granville and Broadway in Vancouver. They have been there forever so I just thought that was where you got it.

The Pfaff sounds wonderful! For some reason I bought everything but one. I also bought a Bernina 200E recently. I may have to look into the Pfaff. I dig that you do not have to snip jump threads. That is something I am not too thrilled about. Maybe I am getting old and my vision is failing.

Nancy- didn't know you lived out here. Yeah clipping the threads is a pain so i love the feature, I thas some cool other things like back stitching at the beginning and end automatically, putting the presser foot up and down when ou press the pedal, the pedal has a retractable cord, so many options that sewing on it is also better
