Ok, well my labor was only 2 1/2 hours....but I'll try to add some details so it's more than two lines long!
Saturday night at bedtime, the 'nesting urge' hit. I had no energy to DO anything, but I laid in bed and came up with quite a 'to do' list for Mike to do on Sunday! LOL. He also told me that night he had a 'feeling' and passed on having a beer with dinner, 'just in case'. Isn't that cute? So Sunday morning I woke up at 6am, stretched and my water broke!
We had decided we were heading right in and not waiting for contractions to start, since Alli was so quick. I was brushing my teeth and putting my contacts in and the first one came! At the hospital I was about 5 cm and the nurse had me on the moniters and baby was fine. The dr came in (my midwife of 9 months was on vacation) and said I didn't need to lay there and be monitered....he suggested walking to bring them on quicker (quicker!!) So we walked about one loop around the hospital and they were getting pretty strong. We got back to the room and I had about 3-4 real strong ones. I was saying "I don't remember how to do the breathing" and was kind of pissed that the nurse there wasn't telling me how to breath. Hubby was though, which was great. Well, the doctor said "you don't need to remember the breathing, let's just push!"
About that time, my midwife showed up!!!!! She was back from vacation and happened to stop in to check on somebody else and heard I was there!!! So I had the dr who I love AND the midwife who I love!! She brought a mirror over for me and I looked and saw a head already!!! I was like "damn, the heads already there, I can DO this!!" I started pushing and the dr mentioned that the labor was going a bit too fast for baby. I have no idea how he knew that, I assume from a decelerated heartrate, but he never said. So I actually had to slow down my pushes and do some smaller ones.....but that was also to keep me from tearing. The doctor kept putting his hand in me and tickling the baby's head to get him to respond. It was scarey but only for a few seconds. It was a bit odd to have the docs hand keep 'tickling' in there though!! I told hubby to rest assured I was not getting anything out of it! My attempt at humor I guess!
So I pushed for 6 minutes and he was out! 6am to 8:34 am ! That was wonderful! I only tore slightly and needed about 3 stitches so I feel so much better this time than I did with Alli (tore AND episiotomy). The placenta was not coming out though......dr waited about 20 minutes while I held him and he nursed right away too. The dr actually had to reach up in me and sort of 'scrape' the placenta out. That was not too pleasant!
Well that's pretty much it! It really was pretty easy! The nurse commented it was the 'most natural' birth she'd seen in a long time. Which is exactly what I wanted. No needles, no meds, nothing. And having my dr AND midwife both there was so great. I joked and asked them if I was getting charged twice!
He's doing great and nursing like a champ! Alli loves him to pieces and constantly wants to hug him and kiss him and help with him. I am sure it's going to be much harder next week when DH is not here to run to her every command and it's just me. But for now, things are going well. It's actually hard for me to relax and not do stuff around here!
