anyone else on them? E's ped. put me on them today b/c he has a rash that she thinks is a yeast rash (plus he has the cradle cap which others have told me may be a yeast infection to).

if you are on them, where do you get them? i just spent $35 on them from the dr. office - major dent in my Storch fund! lol!

ive been eating a lot of yogurt, but not homemade (im too lazy).

cradle cap caused by yeast, eh? that's interesting... i was just going to post re: cradle cap since ds has it so bad and it's not showing any signs of clearing up (he didn't get it until around 10 weeks, but now his whole head is covered and has been for weeks...) and he also has a diaper rash that upon research i've been thinking is yeast related... anyway i've been taking a probiotic, Garden of Life's Primal Defense... i'm going to start being more disciplined about taking it every day. i've also (as of yesterday) cut out sweets and have started raw garlic therapy (not for the faint of heart! my dh isn't too thrilled )

what's the brand of probiotic the ped gave you? (the one i take is from the hfs, but is major expensive $40 or something full price - i try to stock up when it goes on sale) anyway, keep me posted on if it helps the cradle cap or the diaper rash! btw, your ped sounds pretty cool!

I take liquid probiotics. 2 tsps a day. I buy organic yogurt with 6 cultures too. But Daph still has a bit of cradle cap. It's good for other things though too.

Are those the Natren Healthy Trinity that you got? Supposedly those are really good (but need to be refridgerated).

Ooo, Garden of Life is supposed to be good stuff. Wish I could afford suppliments right now.

DS has cradle cap also, and in recent weeks he's gotten dry, flaky skin in his diaper area (in the front; not on his bum). The doctor said that it's just a skin condition and he thinks the flaky skin under his diaper is a similar thing related to the cradle cap. He just said to try and keep the scales down to a minimum so the skin doesn't get inflamed (by oiling and combing them off his scalp) and it should go away eventually.

I've been taking liquid probiotics (Bio-K) for a couple of months now. I first started because we thought there were a few signs of thrush, but I don't think that it really amounted to anything. I was told the probiotics might also help with Simon's gassiness, so that was a major factor in my continuing to take them.

However, I stopped the Bio-K a couple of days ago to see what happens. As I had on a few other occasions, though not in a little while, I had given Simon some biofidus probiotic the other day (Natren Life Start), and that evening he had an hour long session of screaming in pain. This was the first time he had ever been in such discomfort and I was so upset to see him hurting. THe only thing different that day was giving him more probiotic than before, so I decided then that maybe it was causing him discomfort rather than helping with the gas.

Anyway, we'll see how things go. I'll continue eating yoghurt, though, but maybe hold off on the major doses of the bacteria for now.

Ethan has alot of dry skin and has a similar rash around his daper area (in teh front, not on the bum) and a similar patch around his neck, so the dr. said she thought it was yeast b/c its so red inside.
she had not heard that the cradle cap was yeast..i heard that somewhere else. she told me to put some yogurt on his head and see how it does.
his cradle cap is absolutely horrible and i do the oil/comb thing all the time. i just feel so bad when someone comes up to me and say "oh, he has cradle cap". no crap!!
we'll see how it works. The ones i got were by Metagenics, called Ultra Flora Plus DF Capsults (vegetarian/ w/ 15 billion organisms).
i hope it doesnt adversely affect him..that would NOT be good.
i wonder if this will help me at all with my ulcer. a question for next Mondays appt.

Hey mamas! Garden of Life supplements are the only brand I use. Just thought I'd share the cheapest source for them I've found so far:

www.thelivingspring.com

All GOL supplements are 30% off, plus free shipping and a free GPRX book with orders of $50 or more. I order every other month so I can get the free shipping and book. Jordan Rubin's previous book, Maker's Diet, is what got us started on this road to crunchy living and transformed our family's health.

Just thought I'd share. =)

Oh, and Rach, I think if you ordered and got the book, it would be a BIG help with your ulcer issue.

do you think this could have worked that fast though?
i definitely need to get more since i dont want to spend $35 a month on these.

do you guys always take these no matter what? like a daily vit???
Yes, I do. It may not work that fast in some cases, but it has worked even faster than that for me when I first started taking them. I was nursing DD at the time, and had tried just about everything to clear up her persistent severe diaper rash. I think it was 2-3 days after I started the probiotics before it disappeared and never came back.

And yes, I do take them everyday as a supplement. I believe that a healthy digestive tract is the key to good health in almost every area of the body.

If my body can't assimilate the good nutrients I'm eating because my gut is out of whack, then it doesn't matter how good a diet I have, it's all just going to waste. Conversely, when the intestines are well-conditioned with the proper beneficial flora, our bodies can make the best use out of the health foods we give it, and good health, strong immunity, and resistance to allergies are a natural result.

Our family has been amazingly healthy since we started two years ago, and we used to be the sickest ones on the block.
