OMG, your girls are so beautiful! I started tearing up because their skin is so clear and perfect....and Samara's is....well....not. Here she is.

Well, maybe not. Photobucket's website is undergoing maintenance. I'll get the pics up asap.
Oh, Bethany, what's going on with Samara's skin? Does she have eczema?
Yeah, she's got excema really bad. It's the worst on her face. It's all red and raw and oozy. It wouldn't be so bad if it were just dry, like on the rest of her body but, it's RAW. My poor baby.

She really does smile a lot, but for some reason she just wasn't in a smiley mood this time.

Oh, Bethany!

Poor baby. I'm so sorry you're going through this! What kind of treatment are you doing?
I was on a dairly emin diet for 4 wks and her skin actually got worse instead of better. I'm now off of eggs. We use free and clear on the laundry (except for the diapers). I've used breast milk, olive oil, apricot oil, Aquaphor, and Aveeno Baby...none of which helped at all. Then I read the article in this months mothering about the bath products....so no more Aveeno for us. A guy my mom works with has a 2yo son who had this really bad as a baby and they used Melaleuca Renew lotion on him and said it cleared up right away. So now, we're trying that. She goes in the first week of April for allergy testing so we'll know exactly what it is....but it's such a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG wait.

awww poor thing. does it seem to bother her at all? :

Elliot's a little cutie pie! I love that pic of you two at the beach.

Thanks for all the hugs mamas! It doesn't seem to bother her much. She does get itchy and scratches it sometimes, which then makes her bleed and it breaks my heart, but doesn't seem to bug her at all. I think that since she's had it for over half of her life it's normal to her. She doesn't remember *not* having it. kwim?

Awww, all the babies are sooo adorable!

Aww Bethany! I hope it goes away soon! I'm glad it doesnt seem to bother her though. And she is beautiful! I LOVE her big eyes in the first pic. I dont know if you do vaccines or not but I wouldnt let her get any while battling this, especially with eczema. Kids with eczema are more prone to allergies and have a worse reaction with vaccines. You should see what the smallpox vaccine (not recent of course, they havent given that in a while) did to people with eczema, it was HORRIBLE, they looked like they GOT smallpox! My kids have eczema too, I'm sure they got it from me cause I have it (although mine only flares if I eat soy) and my dad has it. Jevin gets it in his groin and behind his legs and Daph gets it behind her ears and on her eyebrows. I put a dab of calendula on it just cause I think it looks itchy and it seems to keep the flakies away (hers is dry though.)

I have a great book with natural treatments for kids and this is what it says for eczema:
______________________________________
Very often , allergies to citrus fruits, eggs, wheat, cows milk, shellfish, or chocolate are related to eczema. Sometimes the foods need to be eliminated up to 6 months before the condition will clear.

Include food high in potassium and Vit A or carotenoids. Cooked carrots and leafy greens are excellent choices. (for the child OR bf'ing mothers)

Berries of all types are sources of anti-inflammatory bioflavonoids.

Black currant seed, borage, and EPO are good sources of gamma linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that has anti-inflammatory properties. These can be taken in supplement form. Flaxseed oil is also beneficial in the treatment of eczema.

Cartenoid complex promote tissue healing.

Selenium helps the body use Vit E effectively and supports the healthy functioning of cell membranes.

Vit C is sodium ascorbate form and bioflavanoids are antiinflammatory and helpful for eczema.

Vit E can be applies topically.

Zinc promotes the healing of wounds.

Balsam of Peru can be applied to the skin alone or diluted with oil.

DRY eczema can benefit from calendula ointment.

A chinese herbal formula known as Luo's mixture was found in 2 controlled studies conducted in Great Britain (on children) to be helpful for eczema, even severe eczema that is resistant to other treatment. It is best to consult a qualified herbalist.

There is homeopathy listed too but it depends on what type of eczema...and I am not too sure if homeopathics work via bf'ing mama? I'll ask MT (from the vaccine forum, she knows everything I swear! LOL)

But it says this:
Use Graphites (up to 5 days) if her patches of eczema are moist and oozing, with a clear or slightly yellow discharge. This type of eczema is most prone to behind the ears and on the scalp and palms of hands.

For a child whose eczema is infected, oozing, and particularly bad on the scalp, take one dose of Mezereum up to 5 days.

If it is worse on legs, try Psorinum up to 3 days (3 times a day).

For a child with dry, red, itchy areas in the folds of joints, use Rhus toxicondendron. 3 times a day up to 5 days.

Dry, red, hot patches of skin and is sweaty and likes being exposed to air, try sulphur, once daily up to 3 days.

If it is dry and scaly, apply Urtica Urens ointment, 2-3 times a day.

If it is wet and weeping, apply homeopathic calendula directly to the area (probably different than the ointment I use if it is homeopathic).

It also says:
Oatmeal bath might help the itching.
Second rinse cycle in the washer may help to get out any soap residue.

Wow, sorry, that was long. LOL But I was just summing up what the book suggests. I'm gonna have to try a few of those too cause there are some things I havent tried and can see if it works.

Okay, here are some 3 month pics of my lil stinker.....LOL

Gosh all of these babies are CUTE!!

Claire, there is something so powerful about Josephine's pose in that pic with her little muscular arm, it makes me think of her as a model for a Pixar baby in the Incredibles.

Is it just me or did everyone fall into the giddy in love state recently with their babes? What fun this is!
