When I try going without a bra I leak all over the place. Also, when I use the lansinoh cream, it stains all my shirts. So I always wear a bra........
guess I just need to wear old t shirts?

Nursing is going well for us, although we are working on weaning from the nipple shield now that dd has regained her birthweight. (She is closing in on 6lbs, hopefully by her 3-week appointment tomorrow!)

I have to really stay on top of the nursing pads, especially at night, as I tend to let down on BOTH sides as soon as she starts nursing. Between that and her spitting up (not so much spit-up as drooling milk once she falls asleep), we sleep in a wet spot for at least half the night. Fortunately, though, we have a family bed pad which at least keeps the wet spot from being COLD.

After all of the stress of the last month of the pregnancy, as well as the unexpected detour in our birth plans, it is nice to have ONE thing that is going smoothly. And when she snorts or sighs during nursing sessions, I fall head-over-heels in love all over again.

Same problem here. I have to wear one 24 hrs a day. I did try wearing a camisole top with a built in sport bra type thing, and that helped...not too tight, but still enough support to hold in nursing pads. Only problem is getting it out of the way to nurse.

Have you tried a Glamourmom top? I will occasionally wear the camisoles with the built-in shelf bras at home, where no one cares when I get half-undressed to nurse. However, I am LOVING the Glamourmoms for going out in public--easy access for nursing, and they're super comfortable.

I love the Glamourmom tops, too! I got two and they are still a bit small... hoping to fit into them better as time passes. Right now I am wearing a cheap nursing bra from Target, soft cup. I really don't need it for support but I do tend to leak all over the place, especially when I pick her up or look at her, which is most of the time!!

Kian had his 2 week checkup yesterday, and we found out he has gained 11 oz. over his birthweight!

I've looked at them, but they were so expensive...I should look on Ebay. I'm super sensitive now that I'm not working.:

I hear ya on the cost issue--I am also having a tough time justifying any personal expenses, now that I'm not working. (Although both of us ARE working, you know; we're just not getting paid!)

For the best deal, I recommend www.mommy2reese.com; they have Glamourmoms for $36, and they do free shipping on orders over $50. (The best deals I have found on Ebay are $37, and you still have to pay S&H.)

Target has generic Glamour Mom tanks, I've heard they're awesome .

My babe isn't here yet, but I bought some tops at motherhoodmaternity.com on their sale page. I think they were $18. I looked at the Glamourmoms too...but WAY too expensive. Sometimes you can find them on the Trading Post forum...

My mother brought a couple of the Target tops to the hospital the day after dd was born, but the boob holes were RIDICULOUSLY closely spaced; the outer edge of each hole hit me right on the nipple, and put a lot of uncomfortable pressure on my breasts. And that was BEFORE my milk came in!

I bought some tanks from Motherwear.com, and they fit nicely. Each was 12.95, a discounted price if you buy 3 of their "simply basic" pieces. This is just a basic tank, though, no bra built in.

breastfeeding is going well. She must have sucked her fingers a lot in utero cuz she never opened up for latch, and if I tried to get the reflex to search out the nipple she'd just bring her hands up to her mouth and shove them in.. so it took a week towork on that.. and for 2 days we had a good latch and much better suction adn draining of my breasts...

My milk came in within 12 hours of the birth (same as with my son) so I ended up with mastititus the next evening due to her still being newborn sleepy and of course having a lousy latch and suck.. but I expressed it out and kept working with her to suck on the breast that was worse.

Then we went to the baby doctor and a birthing doctor to look at me and my daughter to say that "yeah it looks like she gave birth recently, is producing milk, and the baby is probably hers and is about as old as she says" *grin* no one has gone UC in ths county before, at least.. heheh that was fun.. not.

THen we did the PKU test and bilirubin as she was yellow.. turns out she was in the critical range of 513 (over 510 they do blood transfusions and phototherapy) sooo, we ended up in NICU that afternoon and she got her transfusion taht evening.. but they gave her a pacifier to suck on during the exchange despite me telling them to NOT do that because it would ruin our breastfeeding(yes, I am registering a complaint, they are a breastfeeding friendly hospital, grr.. great with all the premies in syringe and cup feeding them.. but give them all pacifiers, what's up with that?).

So then she went back to lousy latch and a completely wrong suckle and lost weight again.. ugh.. went from a 4570 grams (at birth) to 4205grams... After 3 days i finally got her to latch better, but the sucking was harder to teach her the right way...

so now at 4 weeks old she is nursing the correct way, but she got antibiotics for the blood exchange and now we have thrush.. *scream*

Otherwise, doing great. She's up to 5kg finally and chubbying up beautifully, lol.

I have to say, I am loving hte Miracle Blanket (.com) for swaddling and keeping her arms and hands out of the way while we were working on our latch. I'll probably keep using it for breastfeeding purposes for acouple more months and hopefully that good latch will be BURNED into her mind finally.. Tee hee.´

Only got one sore which is way better than what m poor nipples looked like during the first 3 weeks of my son's breastfeeding days.

I must say, Yvonne, my pain/latch/sucking-on-hands problems pale in comparison to yours, and you seem to have a MUCH better attitude than I do! Thanks for the reality check. And yay you for hanging in there (and laughing) through all of that!

I finally gave in and bought a new nursing bra for sleeping in. I drip milk all night long and end up in a puddle.

Ivy wakes to feed around 3:30am. We are cosleeping, so it's not much of a deal -- I just turn and offer her my breast (and if I've timed it all right, she gets the breast closer to the bed, so I can just lay on my side and fall back asleep while she nurses). However... she has this amusing habit of waking up, fussing, rooting and flailing her arms about for about 30 seconds while I offer her the breast (which she won't take), then immediately falling asleep again. She does this about twenty times. What is going on? Is she just dreaming about nursing, rather than actually waking up to nurse?

We did eventually get the nipple in her mouth last night around 4:30am, after which she nursed and fell asleep (she's STILL asleep -- it's 10am!!). Too bad I can't sleep past 8!

nak

Breastfeeding is going awesome for us. My milk isn't in yet, but he has a wonderful latch and is nursing nearly constantly. His little nursing noises are just the cutest thing ever!

His first night he nursed from 1am-1pm, so we mastered the art of nursing while laying down REALLY quick, so we are managing to actually get some sleep despite having such a new little one!
