Did you make a birthday cake during labor?

I had planned on making a birthday cake for the babies during labor, but I forgot! I thought the smell of a baking cake would be comforting and cozy and it would be neat to celebrate their birth afterwards with a birthday cake. My labor was plenty long for there to have been time, but I just forgot. Actually my family probably would have been the ones to make the cake while I laid on the couch. We ended up baking it when they were 2 weeks old instead.

I made chocolate chip banana muffins. mmmmmmmm.... But my kids and family ate them all for breakfast while I was pushing, so I didnt get any!

What a good hostess I was, labouring and baking.

We did buy an ice cream cake the nite before I went into labour that said "welcome baby!" though. I had some of that after dinner.

OMG!!!!! I forgot about what a good idea that is!!!!!!!!! I've already told my dh that when i hit transition instead of him helping me, i want him mixing up a batch of brownies. I have sworn off and had absolutely no chocolate or cookies or cakes because i have extra fluid. so in an effort to help that i've gone cold turnkey and it's KILLING ME!!!!!! I can't wait for labor because i'm gonna have everything i've put in the freezer in like 10 minutes!

what a great idea. with dd #2 we had a one week birthday party but i love that idea even better....especially for mamma!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say that baking helped me alot. It was a great distraction and when I had a contraction I was at the counter- a perfect height - to lean on and sway. It was great!

i made shortbread while the midwives were enroute (they had a 2 hour drive ahead). the midwife loves the shortbread i bake. my labor was during the night so when they got to my home (12:30am) they got prepared for the birth and then took a nap on the coach and lazy boy, so i think the mw got to eat one. i don't think they believed i was in labor since i was making jokes, and in a great mood. i woke them around 5 am when i was ready to push. unfortunately, the shortbread got flipped over in all the excitement when the baby was born (6am) and wound up on my kitchen floor (kids or cats, not sure which). i'm just glad i didn't use a pyrex baking dish!
i plan to bake again this time. not sure what, depends on the time of day but i picture baking and decorating a cake.

I have cleaned house during labor

My labors are fast enough I dont think I would have time to make a cake tho I must say that is a wonderful idea to have cake for after the birth. Maybe dh could do it

Thats sounds like a sweet idea to offer cake to my mw and her assistant dh and girls in celebration of the birth of a new baby. Must remember

I made waffles the night before to put in the freezer, but since I'd had three weeks of prodromal labor I wasn't even convinced it was the real thing yet. We ended up eating the whole stash I'd put in the freezer for breakfast the next morning! LOL

Since my last labor was only four hours long, I don't know if I'd be in labor long enough- but if things were slow moving and it was during the day I think my kids would have fun "helping" to make a birthday cake.

Hmm, I guess we'll see. Fun idea!

and I cleaned house during labor both times...what a waste!!!!!!!! I had all these "labor projects" lined up last time, then ended up only getting stressed that i couldn't get to them all after my water broke and real contractions started.

My birthday is five days after DS's and so we had cupcakes on my birthday from my favorite bakery. It's a lovely thought, though. Maybe with the next one?

i've been thinking about this all week... i'm making a cake for my friend's Mother Blessing this weekend and it's going to be my practice cake. Then once i decide, all the ingredients are going to be ready to go.. just like the birth kit!

Geez, are you guys super moms or what?? When I was in labor, baking was the last thing on my mind. But for me, my water broke and nothing happened for 22 hours and then after I drank castor oil, within an hour my contractions started about 10 mins apart and then within another hour they were 5 minutes or closer apart. I couldn't do much at all. I walked, I leaned on the wall, I used my yoga ball A LOT and rocked back and fourth on it, I got in the shower, then the tub, then the shower, then the tub, etc. etc. etc. I wonder if baking something would keep my mind off things. WOW, you guys inspire me!

My doula needed to bring her 5 month old babe to my birth so her 13 year old dd came too to help. While the baby was napping, her dd made a cake from scratch (I didn't even know I had all the ingredients for a chocolate cake with icing). It was so sweet of her and the cake was a delicious treat after a tough birth!

during my labor, my mom came over and we made whole wheat bread. contracting, mixing and kneading. breathing slowly, forming and creating. transition started right as it was time to rise the bread. we kept joking that by the time the bread was done baking, transition would be over. smelled great, very comforting. when we talk about it today, we still call it transition bread. plus we had a healthy warm treat afterwards! helped remind me to slow down and focus on the moment, it is a long meditative process, very parallel to my labor.

I had planned to make peanut butter cookies for my dogs, but I spent most of labor on the toilet! Baking was the last thing on my mind when labor started.

Maybe this time! I'm hoping labor is too short to bake something, though.

LOL! I had planned on making bread- but- well- labor was 6 hours start to finish.
Contractions started 3 minutes apart.
No making bread! LOL!
I think it is a great idea tho!

I thought about it for my first. But his labor was so short (4 hours) and very hard (contractions started at 2-3 minutes apart), I didn't get a chance. My last 2 have been even faster, so no luck there. But I think it's a great idea.
