Did you make a birthday cake during labor? - Page 2

Oh my, what a great idea! I think this thread just might have put me over the edge in determining whether or not I want to take the "plunge" in to homebirth!

yeah I made a cake...then I had time to eat it...then a week later (still laboring) I made another, muffins, bread, homemade bagels, several lasagnas....

Then I stopped waiting and decided to ignore labor. When contraction were less then 2 minutes apart we made and ate couscous with veggies and chicken. she arrived 2 hours later. the garlic made me a little nauseaus.

Then we made another cake and had a birthday party.

I didn't necessarily plan on baking, but I had hoped to do a bit of cooking during early labor. As it turns out my labor was so fast and intense that I didn't even have time to get soup started in the crock-pot, much less time to bake anything!

I'm planning on making a cake. I love cake.
The book Birthing From Within talks about having a "labor project" (it mentioned baking, among other things), which totally makes sense to me. Last time it seemed like I was just sitting around waiting for things to pick up. This time I want to stay busy with something else.

I did the laundry and cleaned the kitchen (pausing now and then to breathe through the contractions) - my family were very amused! Might be nice to bake a cake this time, although all my births have been quite quick - 4-5 hours from start to finish - so I might not have time

I hope to. I have a special b-day cake for DS that I started making for his first birthday (October - pumpkin) and for this July babe I'm thinking angel food (DH's favorite & perfect for pairing w/ summer fruit).

Although I plan the 'real' cake I make every year to be from scratch w/ some unique variation (maybe hommade ice cream), but the first one will be from a box - add water, beat, bake, done.

doesn't the author have a labor mantra like this: "I'll only be in labor, as long as it takes, to make, bake, and frost, a chocolate birthday cake?"

Tres cool idea to bake while laboring.

I was finishing up all my nesting....so I was contracting at the co-op (I'll always remember my mega squat right in front of the dried fruit) and while getting our Chinese take-out.

When I saw the title of this thread, I laughed so hard I cried!

I do not have the type of labors where it would be possible, much less have the time, to bake a cake!

But hey, whatever floats your boat!
