ALMOST another early baby...

Yes, its true... I realized I hadn't felt the baby move for awhile yesterday evening so I laid down to count for an hour when I realized I was really contracting. As I timed them I realized they were EXACTLY 5 min apart.

So after dinner we met the m/w at L&D and before long my ctx were less than 3 min apart. They tested for a UTI, but I was clean... this little one just wanted to get out early I guess?

Anyway, I ended up with Terb... not my happiest moment, but I weighed the risks with the risks of a 34-35 week old baby and took it. I'm going in tomorrow to renegotiate my EDD with the MW, hopefully they will go with my original date of 4/24 which is a week earlier than the one on record and I can stop taking this nasty stuff in a week.

For those who have not had Terb... let me tell you, it is AWFUL! I am so shaky, exhausted and my heart is pounding CONSTANTLY. Ugh. And I'm on modified bedrest as well. Not the way I want to spend the last days of my pregnancy.

So please send me Full Term vibes... I need this baby to stay put for at least a week, but I'd prefer if it was more like 3 weeks!

I'm not sure how much I'll be posting because it is really hard to type with shaky hands.

Well, they wouldn't change my EDC even based on all my charts and stuff I told the m/w that I'll take the turb for another week and that's it. I just cannot take it. I had myself in such a good place for a natural birth this time and it feels so wrong to stop something that my body is trying so hard to do. I'm still contracting every 5 minutes most of the time and my cervix is closed, so I'm not sure that its really doing much.

Thanks again for letting me vent!

Are you well hydrated?

Ask them if you can use procardia instead. It is actually the standard of care in most places and doesn't have near the side effects of terbutaline.

I was on both during my pg with Anna. Believe me, I feel your pain. Yuck!

Yep... I drink 8-16 oz each hour. The problem may have been that I was retaining a lot of water because my urine was still concentrated, despite how much I was drinking and my legs and feet are HUGE. But my BP is fine, so I'm counting my blessings there. I've started drinking cornsilk tea twice a day and I'm taking Fish Oil and I upped my protein intake and the swelling has gone down. I'm still contracting every five minutes, though...

I'll ask about the procardia today. I'm seeing the m/w to talk about the fact that I'm still contracting even on the meds. Thanks, I had no idea there were alternatives to Turb.

Jumping in from November... I haven't taken Terb, but I was on magnesium sulfate, and it was nasty stuff too. So I know what you're going through. My baby was born at 29 weeks 4 days, and he's perfectly healthy. Thankfully, a 34-35 weeker typically has a short NICU stay, and they're just in there as "feeders and growers". Obviously, as a mom, you still end up emotionally a wreck, even if you know your baby is fine. So it's always best to go full term anyway, but just wanted to reassure you that if your baby came today, it'd most likely be just fine - just need some extra feeding and growing. And at that gestation, you should be able to nurse right away... My DS had to wait a few weeks before getting oral feedings (suck/swallow/breathe reflex occurs around 32 weeks gestation).

Also, since you're planning a natural birth, I want to tell you that even though my baby came that early, I still got a natural birth. It was in a hospital with NICU staff in the room ready to take baby to the NICU, but it was natural. If your baby is in the correct position, you can get a natural vaginal birth. I think the C-section preemies are usually due to either being breech or due to mom having blood pressure problems and they induce, which leads to the C-section. With you having contractions already, your body is probably prepared to birth, and hopefully you'll have a fast, easy labor when it happens!

Sending you vibes for at least another week or two!!!
