Helping my uterus contract after birth?

I wasn't sure if I should post this in the multiples thread or here, but I chose here because I'm sure some moms of singletons will have advice. You gals are a great resource! Anyways...

At my last OB appointment (and I mentioned it to my peri who agreed) I was told that I should start getting extra iron in (I'm very close to being anemic--always have been) because with triplets my uterus is so stretched out that it sometimes has a problem contracting efficiently after birth. So I could have pp bleeding that is lighter but longer than the 6-8 weeks they say is normal.

So I was wondering if there is anything I should do after birth to help with the contracting. Any teas or herbs or supplements I should be taking?

Thanks!

Well, nursing ASAP after labor is probably the best way to make it contract.

You could also start drinking red raspberry leaf tea now. I'd try for 2-3 cups per day.

I think eating your placenta also does the trick. Not my first choice, but I'd consider it if I was hemhoraging!

I agree with Jana but I would drink more and add Nettles to it to improve your placenta circulation.
Also, breastfeed as soon as possible - obviously with triplets you don't know how quick this could happen. If you are separated plan on doing nipple stimulation. I am sure they will give you pitocin after the birth.

Good luck!

Red raspberry leaf tea nourishes and strengthens your uterus. Steep it for hours, rather than minutes, to get the most nutrition out of it. Make a big pitcher of it every few days and let it sit overnight steeping in the fridge. Drink it cold, or microwave it. Add some honey for sweetness.

I would suggest red raspberry leaf tea every day, even after the babies are born.
