Help! Dh's clutter (long)

Okay, I have clutter too but I'm constantly working on it and I've just filled more than one bag for Goodwill.

Dh has so much freakin' stuff I just don't know what to do.

Books, papers, (he's a professor) clothes (most never worn), even his old 8 track tapes (yes, he does).

What really bugs me is stuff like the pages from a magazine we used to publish. Not copies of the magazine (though we have those too) but just pages.

I'd love to sort it and box it but I don't really have the space to do that. Our house is not big and every room is in use.

The problem is that he won't let anything go. Refuses to consider it.

Sometimes I wish he would just move into his own house. Then he could keep all his junk and I wouldn't have to deal with it.

Sigh.

I guess I can try to box it and store it but it's so hard. It would be a zillion times easier if I could throw stuff out.

I've worked so hard on learning to keep a clean house. It's so depressing. We need all the space we have. We really don't have room for all the junk. If we had an extra room I'd just throw the stuff in there and forget about it.

This is what I did with my dh.

There is a closet in our basement. This is where I put things he won't get rid of. We then agreed that if he does not go into that closet for any of the things stored in there for 3 years then I get to throw it out. Which reminds me that I have to go in there and toss the stuff.

I have also tossed his stuff over the years and he has not even noticed or missed it. Every once in a blue moon he asks about something and then I tell him I haven't seen it.
